I've been covering the GOP presidential race since November of 2006. In those many months — across many states — I have never seen a crowd with the energy that I witnessed yesterday at the Erwin Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio.
Yes, there was an inherent buzz owing to the pending veep announcement.
But even after the choice was proclaimed, the crowd seemed to become more jacked. And when Sarah Palin delivered, they seemed to instantly fall in love.
They were, if you will, fired up and ready to go.
And outside the arena, far from Dayton, the response I've gotten from Republican activists coast-to-coast has been one of almost joy. My e-mail in-box is bursting with enthusiasm from loyal GOPers who've been either glum, skeptical or downright unhappy for the past two years.

Are you from Qatar? If so, I’d imagine your TERRIFIED of a strong woman like Sarah Palin.
Yeah, I'm sure you don't want me to volunteer for GOTV, or put a sign in my yard, or a sticker on my car, or donate $ to McCain, none of which I was prone to do until McCain got me 100% onboard, elated, and energized with his Palin pick.

And, I don't know if you noticed, but us fired-up Evangelicals brought victory in the last two presidential elections. We do more than "observe" and more than vote. We hit the streets and the phones and donate cash.
Oh yeah, and we pray too.
Sarah Palin can be used in suburban Columbus Ohio and then hunting in rural southeastern Ohio and be a hit. The only places that Hussein could go in this area are OSU campus and Victorian Village/Clintonville areas where the Kool-Aid drinking libs and “alternative” lifestyle folks reside.

I mentioned this is another thread but I’ll repeat it here. An online friend told me last night that her super liberal daughter came home from college last night for a weekend visit and proclaimed McCain as her vote this fall after hearing his VP pick. She said she is not the only one at her college that decided this. We might just be seeing another generation of Regan Democrats?
MLK would have recognized this guy for the poser he is, but bringing up MLK tonight will be high drama. The media will love it. Expect an Obama bounce.

Palin will move a lot of voters to the McCain side. The KOS/DU/DEMS are very delusional if they think otherwise. In fact, I hope they keep thinking otherwise.

In fact, I think they know it. That is why they are so scared the last 24 hours. You can tell it in their posts.
50,000,000 voted for Bush in ‘00; 62,000,000 voted for Bush in ‘04. Doesn’t that say something about energizing the base to you? Because McCain is going to need 65,000,000 + to win this time.

I was right here on FR saying when Fred Thompson dropped out, that “a McCain for President Yard sign will never cast its shadow on my front lawn”, and I would Never put a McCain bumper sticker on the car. Stopping short of saying I would never vote for him.
Well let me tell you, with his perfect performance at the Saddelback forum, his brilliant new style of ads, and now picking Sarah Palin as the VP, I am so Pumped I can’t be contained.
Within minutes of the VP announcement I began searching websites to purchase bumper stickers, yard signs, T-shirts, anything. Heck right now I could break a taboo of mine and tattoo McCain/Palin 08 on my chest.
There is a difference and the Democratic party will soon get the feeling of that difference running up their collective legs.
To get fired up takes hotness, and we got it!
My liberal brother and sister in law that live in Cypress are not voting for Obama. They don’t like him at all. They are liberal Bush haters too. Hussein better get ready for a wipe out.

No problem... McCain already had the Democrat wing of the Republican Party sewed up. What he needed was help with the base. While I agree he couldn't win the election with the base alone, he wasn't going to win without it.
