The GOP Grassroots will live to rue the choice of Palin Elections are won in the center not the base

That's my sentiment exactly. A vote from an energized voter counts the same as that from a lackadaisical voter. However these "crazy" conservatives that you find here on FR think that because people are "excited" that will translate to more votes. Rubbish. I've been keenly involved in observing politics for over 25 years and I'm amazed at the naivety of some of the posters on this site. They would rather have a VP they agree with than a VP who is best qualified to step in if something were to happen to the president. They think because Palin is a hunter that is something important. BFD. The so called "evangelical" conservatives for lack of a better word actually believe they are a majority rather that about 15% of the voting public. This is why they keep getting clobbered in elections. Then when clobbered they say the candidate isn't conservative enough. Amazing.

Clobbered—like in the presidential elections of 2000 and 2004? Not to mention the Congressional elections in 2002 and, 2004 and 2006.

They would rather have a VP they agree with...

Um, isn't that why we vote?

And, I don't know if you noticed, but us fired-up Evangelicals brought victory in the last two presidential elections. We do more than "observe" and more than vote. We hit the streets and the phones and donate cash.

Oh yeah, and we pray too.

50,000,000 voted for Bush in ‘00; 62,000,000 voted for Bush in ‘04. Doesn’t that say something about energizing the base to you? Because McCain is going to need 65,000,000 + to win this time.

There is a huge difference between an energized voter and a lackadaisical voter. An energized voter will go out in a rainstorm to make sure their vote gets cast, a lackadaisical one will sleep in or just not think about it until too late. An energized voter will energize undecideds in their circle of friends and acquaintances, a lackadaisical voter will bring everyone down. The energized voter will donate time and money, the lackadaisical one will say, I am casting my vote, that is more than enough.

There is a difference and the Democratic party will soon get the feeling of that difference running up their collective legs.

McCain raised $4.5 million yesterday. Do you think it came from all those mushy middle types you’ve supposedly been observing for 25 years?

Bookmarked. There is nothing I like better than helping self-proclaimed experts eat crow after making statements like this.

I will be sure to remind you of your current statements on 5 November.

You doofus. I guess that's why Ronald Reagan won two landslide elections. I predicted the other day that there would be trolls trying to diss Governor Palin.

I think the whole country is sick and tired of political hacks who care only about themselves. The promises they make are only pandering and this is a person who made promises and kept them.

I think a lot of liberals will vote for her because she’s a woman and they are mad at Obama.

And BTW, rocket scientist, the Evangelical’s candidate won the last 2 elections for president. I’m not Evangelical but Evangelicals seem to have the same opinions that I have.

Does that mean you intensely sit on your couch and flip channels between C-Span and CNN?

"keep getting clobbered"

Really? How does that explain the last twenty of twenty-eight years with Republicans in the White House?

You have to see the context. Assuming that the country is roughly 1/3 among left, middle, and right, an election is won by the middle only if the candidate already captures the base. Until the selection of Palin, McCain didn't do bad on the middle, but he was still lacking on his own base, the right. Now, he covers both.
