Lafayette is oil capital of LA. Fill your tank now before the prices jump.

Saw on the news that a huge fleet of tour buses is being placed at the ready to evacuate people if an order if called. People are already being evacuated from nursing homes and other facilities where people are not ambulatory.

Michael Chertoff is on the scene. Jindal, Chertoff and FEMA are on top of things. Nagin might as well go to Las Vegas, or something. His input is meaningless.

not sure where it will go....it could actually go west of NO like that map shows despite the media hype....in fact the track LIKELY will go west of NO and only bring them tropical storm conditions.

However, it could stall and move west along the coast, devastating a lot of W LA and E TX.

We will see.....still too early to tell. It could still hit NO if it moves east, and I am a bit concerned with the track this morning that that might happen.

“I can see the convention coverage already—the MSM are praying for disaster so they can show a split screen of Palin’s acceptance speech with shots of destruction.”

They aren’t even being coy about it either. Brian Williams last night specifically mentioned on NBC Nightly News that the GOP was hoping to avoid “us showing split screen of the convention and destruction from Gustav.”

Yeah, but it should pass WELL to the west, so it should bring rain.

The AP story is still accurate....

It is currently over very hot waters.

The shear and cooler waters are right before landfall.

Man La. residents are idiots.

“Hey, let’s head west where everyone else in this craphole state is going....hey, let’s get stuck in traffic and let the hurricane just come in a bit further west to wipe us out.”

Morons.

Didn’t look to see if this was posted, but I like this link for watching the weather radar:

Yeah, but it should pass WELL to the west, so it should bring rain.

You may be right and let’s hope so except that WELL west would not be so good news for Galveston or Houston. It really all depends on how big Gustav gets and how much water it pushes out in front of it. Severe wind damage from most hurricanes is typically limited to a rather small area near the center of the eye. The greatest threat and loss of life from most hurricanes is from flooding due to heavy rain and storm surge.

Katrina passed just east of NO and as bad as it was, it would have been even worse if it had passed just to the west.

He was on MSNBC with Keith Olberman. It is the most vile thing I have seen in quite a while.

Gee, I wonder why God left the French Quarter in tact?

And also devastated a section of Mississippi coast filled with Republicans, military bases, and crucial Navy ship construction facilities.

Hurricanes have been hitting the Gulf Coast for hundreds of thousands of years; in a lot of that time, more frequently than now. We just happened to build stuff and have festivals in the way.

I heard they may postpone the convention. This would not be a bad thing.
