Dont kid yourself John McCain just put all his chips on the table and rolled the dice.
Over the past many months, McCains team had skillfully underscored the natural impressions of Americans that Barak Obama was the lightweight in the race; the candidate of risk. Now, with a single stroke McCain has undercut his most effective argument. He has weakened his case for wisdom and experience, and elevated a one-term governor of a small-population state based on her gender.
McCain had plenty of safe choices. Choices that would have bolstered Americans inherent understanding of McCains competency and ability; choices that would have underscored the longstanding notion that whatever gimmick the Democrats try, the Republican Party remains the serious one.
With the electorate evenly split, McCains first job was to pick a competent running mate that would not undermine his standing, and would reassure voters that should something happen to the oldest man ever to be nominated for president, a competent, experienced leader, ready to serve as commander-in-chief in a time of war, was waiting in the wings.
The former Miss Congeniality, and hockey mom from the last frontier is a bizarre choice.
McCains pick today has all the hallmarks of a political gimmick and a hail-Mary pass. While it is likely to excite some conservatives, his choice will refocus the entire campaign away from Obamas status as a political neophyte and will reshuffle the risk calculus in the favor of the increasingly familiar, and always-eloquent Obama. With Biden on the ticket, Obama has lessened the sense that he poses a serious danger to the electorate. McCains selection by contrast is likely to shake voters and cast uncertainty on the wisdom and safety of a McCain presidency.
With competent and proven individuals waiting in the wings such as Governor Mitt Romney, the selection of Sarah Palin is a most unfortunate choice.
John McCain may have just lost the 2008 election
cue the hurricane.
LOL, Willard's plastic surgeon would NOT like to hear you say that.
I’m writing in Hunter/Hunter. Duncan Hunter is the ONLY one conservative enough to be both POTUS and VP! /mctt (more conservative than thou)
I cannot take credit. I’ve seen it all over the place. I just Bidened it.
Did conservatives "get their way" in the last two Presidential election cycles, and through this most recent primary cycle? No and yes. President Bush, in so many ways, is not a conservative. Duncan Hunter is not the name on this cycle's ticket. So why are conservatives important? How will we get our way?
Conservative voters will be the deciding factor in this election--just as we were in '00 and '04. We didn't elect President Bush as much as we kept Gore and Kerry out. We will do the same to Senator Obama on November 4.
If you think otherwise, you're stupid.
“Hmmmm. Looks like Huckaliar might be ghost writing for GOPublius.com.”
I seriously doubt that. I would bet that Huckabee strongly approves.
I would bet that most of the naysayers are Romney bots. these are the same people who were telling us to suck it up and vote for McCain regardless of who he picked, and now they don’t want to take their own advice. They will get over it and they will vote for McCain, well some won’t, but we will gain in the conservative base and, if Hillarys website is any indication, we will gain a sh** load of Hillary supporters who are really high about this pick and madder than he** about the DNC and Obama. Go McCain/Palin!
LOL. Get Serious and visit Palins bio. on Wikipedia.
This article is just neo-conservative/Liberal ranting.RINO sour grapes. And the RINOS thought they could do it without conservatives? NOT!
This election is over. The Pubbie ticket is a winner, and the Obama campaign is so far behind the curve that they won't even get to watch the finish. It will be all over in 66 days and the Dems will still then wonder what happened.
As a matter of fact the Obama campaign is likely now organizing its " we lost because the Republicans cheated" function.Thats all they have left, on the left.
I am an evangelist would would NEVER vote for Romney, and it’s not because I’m a bigot...heck, I’d vote for a Jewish pres, a Catholic pres, a Mormon pres, or an agnostic pres, IF they matched my values, which Romney clearly did not.
Romney stated he would ban semi-auto firearms and he only became a conservative after he decided to run for pres...I believe he was insincere in that conversion and that after he won he’d follow McCain down the path of “maverick” hate-conservatives policies and we’d get Mass II.

"Writing in Duncan Lee Hunter"In other words, voting for Berry Soetoro...
workerbee ~ Tell us the last president who made his VP choice for reasons other than who they believe will bring the most votes on Election Day.
Every president since Nixon has selected the Veep as impeachment insurance, no one would dare risk impeaching the president and being stuck with the Veep as president!
There will be no name calling you bone head!
Whatever way you need to process it.
You’ve made a grand total of four posts in ten years?
When do you find the time???
“Every mormon I have known well has been a fine and ethical person.”
So.......Hell will be full of “fine and ethical” people.
Also, you don’t understand what “fruits” Jesus was speaking about.
To paraphrase Bono, “THE GOP IS SEXY AGAIN!!”
Wrong. McCains choice brightens the spotlight on obama’s inexperience. Sarah Palin has far greater experience as an elected offical, serving as mayor and as governor, than the magical one.
It wasn’t conservatives that gave us McCain, it was the anti-GOP open primaries in crucial states that allowed Dems to cross over and vote for THEIR candidate.
They’re trying to do the same thing here in Oregon, and did it already in Washington...there won’t be a party structure in primaries, it will be the top two vote getters.
So in elections to come we will have a choice between Liberal Democrat #1 and Liberal Democrat # 2.
Ed
That needed fixin'. Sorry.
Just think, in a couple of months we won't be seeing that cheese eating, surrender monkey Obama on TV.
And people wonder why I don't consider myself a Christian.
