“Environmentalists are big supporters of the idea.”

All we need to know.

Just like former NY state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, I do not trust Steve Poisoner, nor this screwball scheme with which he’s angling to run as the next RINO Governor of CA!!!

Just great. As a CA commuter I log 100 miles a day. Now in addition to getting screwed on gas, my Ins rate goes up. I really need to move to Alaska.

As long as it’s voluntary. That’s the key.

Now, why would insurance companies love this idea? Could it be that they would no longer be tied to state-wide rates?

I’m a Farmers Insurance Agent for Farmers in California and we already do it this way - less miles, less premium.

Mileage is reported officially twice - when you get your car smogged and when you need two service.

Why is this new?

Didn’t they try this in Britain?

No doubt the liberals in Washington state will pursue this like a horny old man after a hot blonde.

This is almost identical to the Oregone Gax Tax proposal based on miles driven, rather than per gallon that has also been proposed for CA. They will have to track us via GPS, GIS and satellites to make it work especially when we slip out of state on business/vacation trips.

That will eventually be used to limit our constitutional right of moving about freely in these United States of America!!!

Of course EnvironMentalists love this entree to a sinister totalitarian scheme!!!

Where accidents happen
Miles from home/Percentage of accidents
1 mile or less - 23 percent
2 to 5 miles - 29 percent
6 to 10 miles - 17 percent
11 to 15 miles - 8 percent
16 to 20 miles - 6 percent
More than 20 miles - 17 percent

I love the concept. As long as it is a flat examination of miles driven I have no problem with the execution. You only pay when you drive. What a concept.

“His plan would base annual rates partly on the exact number of miles driven and would allow people to pay less if they drive less”

Here’s the thing. If I were a socialist leaning type, I’d love this. I don’t drive anywhere I absolutely don’t have to. I work at home, and live in a paradise, have seen more of the world than I ever wanted to, so why would I want to go anywhere?

Anytime some bureaucrat gets to throw us at his scales and determine his choice of which of us gets the goodies I get nervous. Even when it would be to my benefit.

In other words, NO!

“The electronic monitoring would track only total miles driven and not how or where someone drives as occurs in other states and countries that have pay-as-you-drive insurance, Poizner said.”

Yeah, like I believe that one.. lol no thanks.

Riddle me this. Why should liability on covering four identical cars be any higher than on one of those cars, when I can only drive one at a time?

Stop driving, stop patronizing markets on drives anymore and be prepared for government to come up with new ways to collect taxes as the economy takes a dump and gas taxes to the state and feds go down.
