SAGINAW - T-Boone Pickens says they're the wave of the future.
But a wind turbine meant to save one Saginaw family on electricity has instead sparked a huge headache for their neighbors. "It makes a terrible air raid noise," says Debbie Behrens, about the high-pitched whine made by the turbine. "It's driving me crazy." What's worse, is that Debbie and her son Lance both say that high-pitched hum is now causing them problems, physically. "You occasionally have the dizziness," explains Lance, "The ringing in the ears, I've never experienced the ringing in the ears." It turns out, there is a documented health condition associated with the noise generated by some windmills called: Wind turbine Syndrome.

I thought the usual diagnosis was just 'freakin stupid'.
It is documented well enough that its main proponent received the Nobel Peace Prize for it. The ravages of this disease manifest themselves in the maniacal rantings and ravings in public, excess usage of ‘earth’s resources’, and extreme bloating of the physical vessel [ a few two many Big Macs and Slurpies].
This is great news. I was thinking of installing a small turbine anchored onto the framing in a barn to drive out bats roosting there with the high frequency vibrations. Sounds like it does the job.
Full speed ahead!
I’m certain those massive blades are chopping up migrating birds and killing endangered insects not to mention the high pitched whine of the turbines is disturbing the spotted owls and threatening Bigfoot. Where is PETA??? (sarcasm)
I would not be surprised if they found the things are emitting low frequency (subsonic) sound waves and that is what is making everyone feel sick.
“I would not be surprised if they found the things are emitting low frequency (subsonic) sound waves and that is what is making everyone feel sick.”
I think you may be right. I’ve got a audio frequency generator I used to experiment with and the lower frequencies, around 100, will make you ill pretty quickly.
There just ain't no free lunch.
Burning stuff makes smoke, nuke plants have radiation hazards, even hydro and windmills make noise.
The only answer is obviously magic! Why the liberals will just wave a wand and you will have all the energy and everything else they think you need;all it will cost is your freedom.
Exactly!
Wind Turbines Whip Up Health Fears
Excellent.
Let's install some of these suckers near where YOU live and see if you're still bleating that taunt.
They're in the process of putting in a shitload of them less than a mile from my home. I am about to trade "the quiet, pastoral rural life" for a 24/7 "whump whump whump" and "the skyline from hell."
I am also bracing for 24/7 migraines (a documented effect for those who are already afflicted with migraine).
And, of course, my property values (but NOT my property TAXES) going straight down the ol' crapper.
Why?
So that some fatcat with "good political connections" can haul in some "benefits" (read "tax advantages, subsidized by the likes or ME) for the latest greenie scam du jour.
Michigan seems to be Ground Zero for this bullshit.
Unlike The Swimmer (even the lefties don't want this crap in THEIR backyard), I do NOT have the $$$ to fight off the onslaught. So, I am basically screwed.
If I had room in my yard, I would. Right next to the oil refinery and the nuke plant. Maybe it'll drown out the 'Mexican radio' up the street. ;-)
When finances permit, I'll most likely have to settle on solar panels.
There's already enough reasons to oppose the big windfarms. There's no reason to start making stuff up.
And yes. It sounds exactly like the powerline paranoia of the late 70's.
I'm not making up jack shit, so please spare me the insults. I am neither a liar nor a paranoid.
I am however living just down the hill from where they will be installing one of these eyesores (and earsores) -- turning my FORMERLY "pastoral rural mini-farm" into "a taste of hell."
I used to be able to shoot nice landscape photos from within the borders of my property. Now, well... screw that concept.
And don't give me any crap either about "you live in the country, you live with the stink" -- if they'd wanted to put in a hog farm, they'd get no grief from me.
If I'd wanted to live in an industrial eyesore/earsore location, I could have found somethign a HELL of a lot cheaper than this place cost (and the next guy will naturally pay a hell of a lot less too, as I take a beating when I sell it -- but hey, a small price to pay, for some well-connected fatcat to "Make Money Fast" eh?)
Is THAT what these things are in the front of my head? :)
Great to see you, again!!! Hope you're doin' well...
Thanks for the kind words. Haven't been doing all that well. I am now a certified bum. :( My wife badgered me into "going on disability" (you know you're a physical wreck when Social Security approves you for disability WITHOUT getting a lawyer to plead your case).
On the bright side, it looks like I will actually have someone to vote for this coming election. McCrazy can ride her coattails. :)
