In a sharp turnaround, Republican John McCain has opened a 5-point lead on Democrat Barack Obama in the U.S. presidential race and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released on Wednesday.
McCain leads Obama among likely U.S. voters by 46 percent to 41 percent, wiping out Obama's solid 7-point advantage in July and taking his first lead in the monthly Reuters/Zogby poll.

The empty suit has gone from threadbare to holes in the knees and elbows.
I predict a George Mcgovern style defeat for Obarry.
He doesn’t dare. Like Rush said...he’d have to have all his meals tested...and would have to hire someone to start his car for him every time before he gets in (shades of The Godfather). I’ll go a step further and speculate that Hillary will be mad (and bitter) enough to give him that concern regardless of his VP pick.
And then there is the percentage of people who say they are going to vote for Obama, but once they are in the voting booth . . . will never pull the lever for a black nationalist / muslim / street agitator for president of the United States.
McCain came across very well in the televised forum. Much better than Obama. And, most importantly, he connected with the conservative base.
WOW!
Race aside, Obama is a far left candidate and the country at large is just not as far to the left as Obama. There are a multitude of other reasons I agree with you. I suspect Obama will lose badly.
Yea, but obama still has the african American vote, the idiot vote (college kids and other who dont know whats going on in the world) and dems are prone to cheat. I’m still hoping there is a bradley effect and be keep this clown out of office.
They won't do anything but vote to nominate hOlyman. If they voted against the One, they would finally do enough to alienate the black voter - who would likely stay home.
Since when do we believe anything al-Reuters posts?
Check this line: “and is seen as a stronger manager of the economy”
When the hell do we ever get that catagory?
There may be more ‘Pubbies watching the Democrat Convention than Democrats...
“hundreds of dollars worth of damage” I like that. That’s just about the total value of some of the inner cities.
Cool comment.
Pardon me while I rain on the parade.
Rasmussen does not show McCain ahead. In fact, in recent days he has lost 1-2 percent.
Polls cannot be watched for absolute results. They only can be relied on as trend indicators. Obama has certainly trended down in recent weeks, but there is no telling if he’s ahead or behind because the turnout model for any particular pollster may not be correct. That constant turnout model can show a trend, but not a specific value of anything.
Hillary on the ticket is a big threat. It is not clear she would or should accept it, but better it not even be offered. And as has been pointed out, better that there be some polls in the upcoming 14 days that do not show a big McCain lead — until after the Dem convention.
“I told people on Saturday night that there would be an 8 point swing after McCain totally thrashed Obama at Saddleback Church. The three point Obama lead has become a 5 point deficit.”
Tommy, who do you like in the 4th at Aqueduct today? ;-)
That this comes from Reuters makes it all the more interesting. Im not saying more legit, just more interesting.
LOL! I would love to claim ESP, but this poll was taken BEFORE the Saddleback disaster for Obama. I wonder how much more the McCain lead is today?
He could just use her to win the election, then dump her. They’re Democrats, they do this irregular stuff naturally.
She’s got some sizeable percentage of the party, and he needs at least all the Democrats, to win.
After that...pick a scandal, any scandal. Put on a grim face and say that she’s not the Hillary he knew, and with deep regret he must accept her resignation.
