"Gentlemen, comrades, do not be concerned about all you hear about Glasnost and Perestroika and democracy in the coming years. They are primarily for outward consumption. There will be no significant internal changes in the Soviet Union, other than for cosmetic purposes. Our purpose is to disarm the Americans and let them fall asleep. We want to accomplish three things:
One, we want the Americans to withdraw conventional forces from Europe. Two, we want them to withdraw nuclear forces from Europe. Three, we want the Americans to stop proceeding with Strategic Defense Initiative."
Quote by: Mikhail Gorbachev (1931- ) General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, the last head of state of the USSR (1985-1991) Date: November 1987 Source: speech to the Soviet Politburo, November 1987
These “quotes” would be a whole lot more convincing and effective if the site linked directly to the source, instead of to another page of their website.
So, how did that work out, Mikey?
Yup...and, don't forget, the quote from our dear president about looking into Pootie-Poot's eyes and "seeing the soul of a man I can trust" while our next president, John McCain, said "when I look into Putin's eyes I see KGB!" Oh, how I wish we could have a do-over in the 2000 GOP primary!
That is the quote we have on the main page of our Trans-Asian Axis site....
I wish they’d quit looking into his eyes and start looking into his motives.
The quote has been around a long time. I don’t necessarily think modern Russia wants to advertise comments from the Soviet Politburo.
Ideas are far more powerful than guns.
We don’t allow our enemies to have guns,
why should we allow them to have ideas?

>>>Three, we want the Americans to stop proceeding with Strategic Defense Initiative<<<
I think we should try some black-op right out of a Tom Clancy or Dale Brown novel, with some stealth bombers taking out the obsolescent tanks, hitting some of the fat, out-of-shape Russian reservists, and generally sowing chaos. Then, when the Russkies leave Georgia with their tail between their legs, let the Soviets kill Putin for trying to mess with America.
Along the same lines:

New Lies for Old
In 1984, Golitsyn published the book New Lies For Old[3], wherein he predicted the collapse of the communist bloc orchestrated from above. He warned about a long-term deception strategy designed to lull the West into a false sense of security, and finally economically cripple and diplomatically isolate the United States. Among other things, Golitsyn stated:
* “The ‘liberalization’ [in the Soviet Union] would be spectacular and impressive. Formal pronouncements might be made about a reduction in the communist party’s role; its monopoly would be apparently curtailed.”
* “If [liberalization] should be extended to East Germany, demolition of the Berlin Wall might even be contemplated.”
* “The European Parliament might become an all-European socialist parliament with representation from the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. ‘Europe from the Atlantic to the Urals’ would turn out to be a neutral, socialist Europe.”
I am more concerned that it is like Hitler and the Sudetenland.
And then Sevastopol will be the new ‘Danzig’.
I'm still for a black-op strike on all those tanks.
We have not yet used our greatest weapon...Wall St. It is time to let the Rooskies know who holds all the cards in this poker game. It is time to get every American bank, mutual fund, insurance company, foundation and every other institution to start selling every Russian stock that we own. Choke the Rooskies in billions of overnight losses and convince the Europeans to do the same. Let the Rooskies know that if you want to be a bully, there is not a single place on earth outside of Russia to park your rubles!
ROTFLOL! And who is going to finance this idea of going against markets? That sort of thinking is expensive, as the USSR found out.
And also, I suppose you haven't looked at the Russian market manipulations in advance of the Georgian invasion, eh?
Don’t count out all those new young Muslims joining the Russian armed forces!
