LOS ANGELES (Legal Newsline)-Singer and songwriter Jackson Browne has filed a lawsuit against Republican presidential hopeful John McCain and the Republican National Committee for using his 1977 hit song "Running on Empty," in a television ad.

The ad criticizes Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama for telling Americans they can increase their gas mileage by keeping their car tires inflated to the proper pressure.

In court papers filed in Los Angeles, Browne said the TV spot violates copyright law and falsely suggests that he endorses McCain's candidacy.

The lawsuit says Browne throughout his career has "closely associated himself with liberal causes and Democratic political candidates" and causes.

Jackson Brown was a jerk in 1977 and remains one today.

Is it his song? Just because he sang it, doesn’t mean it is necessarily his.

He’s a freakin woman beater, Daryl Hannah got clobbered all the time by the Candy A$$ tool. Probably never swung at man though, they never do.

Jackson Browne is the poster child for an Obama supporter—a middle-aged former hippie minstrel who hasn’t done a darn thing with his life since 1977 except smoke a lot of reefer.

No doubt he was properly paid under copyright for usage.
He has just decided that he didn’t care about that, and filed a suit.

Wadda moron.

He should know that the press he gets with the suit will just bring more attention to the ad and its message.

Someone in McCain’s group made a pretty dumb error.

Using anyone’s music without permission is bad enough. But using a known liberal rock performer’s stuff in an ad lampooning a liberal candidate is way stupood.

What planet is anyone on that doesn’t know Jackson Browne is a big leftie?

I saw a pic of Jackson Browne earlier today - who other than him has the exact same stupid haircut he had 30 years earlier.

Nice gentle liberal Jackson Browne used to beat the living c**p out of Daryl Hannah when they were dating.

This sicko belongs in jail. And I can’t stand his whining voice or his gay lyrics.

Say what you will but “Late for the Sky” is probably the greatest breakup song ever written.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any of this clown’s music in my 1000 plus CD collection to take outside and burn in protest. I had this same problem when the Ditzy Chicks pissed everybody off.

I did a search on YouTube to find that camcorder video of Hannah getting clobbered by Browne. No luck.

Jackson Browne with a rare beard. SOMEONE obviously dyes their ridiculous 70's hairstyle. The crazy assassin in "No Country For Old Men" copied Browne's creepy hair. And mullets are only worn by out-of-date mental defectives these days.

Maybe John Edwards should use “Lawyers in Love” for the theme song of his redemption campaign...
