That is why this election could be the most important of our lifetime. When it comes to our economy, our security, and the very future of our planet, the choices we make in November and over the next few years will shape the next decade, if not the century. And central to all of these major challenges is the question of what we will do about our addiction to foreign oil.
If I am President, I will immediately direct the full resources of the federal government and the full energy of the private sector to a single, overarching goal - in ten years, we will eliminate the need for oil from the entire Middle East and Venezuela. To do this, we will invest $150 billion over the next ten years and leverage billions more in private capital to build a new energy economy that harnesses American energy and creates five million new American jobs.

As for his speech, read it and weep and weep much more, if he becomes president.
Other than all the obvious problems with his plan outlined in his speech, I would like to point out something, that is probably a Freudian slip, but it does show how his mind works:
Look at the second paragraph in the above excerpt:
"If I am President, I will immediately DIRECT .. government and ...private sector"
He plans to DIRECT, i.e. control, the private sector.
He also plans to "leverage billions more in private capital" -- he thinks he controls that too -- what does that tell you?
Will the private sector have any say in this? Note, he is not talking about giving incentives to the private sector, he is going to "direct them" and leverage their investment -- what if they don't want to invest in Obama's nutty ideas?
How many of us remember President Bush in 2004-2006 claiming our need to get off foreign oil dependance? He was skewered by the left as an imbecile. Now Obama makes this claim and he is a genius.
Funny, I don’t remember Bush being skewered for that.
“what if they don’t want to invest in Obama’s nutty ideas?”
Zere are vays to deal mit zat! Ein visit from der Civilian National Defense Force,
for der beer, der bratwurst und der “Re-education” should be sufficient!/s

Uh, Obama, YOU CANNOT DIRECT THE PRIVATE SECTOR TO DO ANYTHING!..........Unless you plan on being a PRESIDENT-DICTATOR-FOR-LIFE type.......................
Modest little MF, isn't he?
IN TEN YEARS? I thought it was a waste to drill in the US because it won't make a differenece for ten years.
You've got to understand, George Bush was going to need to drill for oil, while B. Hussein will accomplish this with merely a tire pressure gauge!
“”If I am President, I will immediately DIRECT .. government and ...private sector”
Also as the Hugo Chavez plan. Such a loser...
it was even before that
From Bush's February 2, 2005, State of the Union address:
Four years of debate is enough: I urge Congress to pass legislation that makes America more secure and less dependent on foreign energy.
From Bush's January 20, 2004, State of the Union address:
Consumers and businesses need reliable supplies of energy to make our economy run -- so I urge you to pass legislation to modernize our electricity system, promote conservation, and make America less dependent on foreign sources of energy.
From Bush's January 28, 2003, State of the Union address:
Our third goal is to promote energy independence for our country, while dramatically improving the environment ... A single chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen generates energy, which can be used to power a car -- producing only water, not exhaust fumes. With a new national commitment, our scientists and engineers will overcome obstacles to taking these cars from laboratory to showroom, so that the first car driven by a child born today could be powered by hydrogen, and pollution-free. Join me in this important innovation to make our air significantly cleaner, and our country much less dependent on foreign sources of energy.
From Bush's January 29, 2002, State of the Union address:
Good jobs also depend on reliable and affordable energy. This Congress must act to encourage conservation, promote technology, build infrastructure, and it must act to increase energy production at home so America is less dependent on foreign oil.
Obama makes a good case for that pompus good sounding rhetoric can indeed be substituted for action and pragmatic thought.
There is no weight to his words.
What a clueless nitwit!
He has no idea what will replace oil. BUT it will only cost $150 Billion dollars spread over 10 years to do it.
I understand politics. In a country desperate for action, ideas like a gas tax holiday or expanded oil drilling in the waters off our coasts are popular. And I'll say this - if there were real evidence that these steps would actually provide reeal, immediate relief at the pump and advance teh long-term goal of energy independence, of course I'd be open to them. BUT SO FAR THER ISN'T.
Paragraph 11
...it's time we tell them to start START DRILLING on the land thay already have or turn it over to someone who will, because WE NEED THAT OIL.
Soooooooo.....which is it Mr.Obama? Do we drill or not drill?
I noticed that too.
How you “direct” people to move around private property and resources will be very interesting.
“Back then, we imported about a third of our oil. Now, we import more than half. Back then, global warming was the theory of a few scientists. Now, it is a fact that is melting our glaciers and setting off dangerous weather patterns as we speak.”
It is a FACT? ....uh...no....it’s not.
‘He has no idea what will replace oil’.
I’m proposing ‘exotic matter’! If you want in on this, email me and I’ll send you the address to send your investment!!!
That’s how you “leverage billions more in private capital” from Dimmocrats!!!
I’ll take door number one!!!
