it won't make a difference if Democratic leaders are unwilling to bring up a bill for an up-down vote, said White House spokesman Tony Fratto. I thought the point was to make America SEE that the Democrat leaders refuse to take action on this matter. Have America SEE that Republicans have an energy plan and that we want it voted on.
It would make a difference.

He should have already done it.
But now, with him heading to China for the Olympics, it may be best that he didn’t...

How can the White House call Congress into session anyway? Isn’t that a violation of the separation of powers?

It's not the point of “making a difference”, it's the point of taking their vacations away because they did not EARN it.

Power play???
What exactly would happen if Dems refused to comply?
I appreciate the Reps in DC, keeping this on the front burner, though.
As an owner of a small trucking company, I can ill afford to wait until after the election/inauguration for a solution. Further passing on my expenses could cause a loss in my competitive edge.

The Queen's book tour is a far more pressing issue for America right now.
I e-mailed the WH last week as well.

Bush could really strike a cord if he stated he would give up his trip to the Olympics to stay here and get this important business done.
He would have an easy out on attending the opening ceremonies. He would show initiative, and a disgust for Democrat leaders who fiddle while Rome burns.
He would inspire Americans to support domestic production.
Well, I guess shining the spotlight on communism and totalitarian leadership is just too good an opportunity to pass up. Say, anyone want to adopt a young female child? Angelina, wholesale pricing...

I do agree with Bush on this - I think it is better for the Dems to go home and get hammered by their constituents. If Bush called a special session, they still wouldn't vote to lift the ban on drilling, and it would turn into a political fiasco.
I did like it that the Republicans had a little 'tea party' so to speak. If nothing else, it did draw attention to Dems behavior.

We don't have plans to call Congress into session -- it won't make a difference if Democratic leaders are unwilling to bring up a bill for an up-down vote, said White House spokesman Tony Fratto. This is a very dubious proposition but to the degree that it is true it is true only because the Democrats have a majority in Congress and they have a majority in Congress largely because of the sheer transcendental political mismanagement, indifference, and selfishness of George Herbert Walker Bush for the last 7 1/2 years!

What’s that W stand for? Wimp?
The DhimmiRats take political advantage of every opportunity that falls into their laps. This is a golden opportunity for the Repubs, via GWB to force their hand. So what if the ‘leadership’ doesn’t bring up the requested agenda? So what if they only convene and adjourn?
If the President is clear in why he is making this emergency request, and the Dems still avoid the issue? Political suicide in November...
It’s the right thing to do. And, now is the right time to do it.
Another round of letters to the WH, I guess. I’ll do that, now.
