I just called and said "There's a Republican revolt going on int the House Chamber and I wasn't seeing much coverage of it." I got a run around on it. Was told several times "There are no cameras on now. Cameras are not allowed." I objected, politely, that the story could still be covered.

He seemed mildly irritated that I would question that and asked if I wanted to talk to (name garbled) and I said yes. Got a phone tree that led to leaving a recorded message. I did...

"There's a Republican revolt going on in the House Chamber. I understand that the cameras are turned off. You can still cover the story. Thank you."

“Speculators are here in America to stay, and they serve a function...Unless we just toss this country overboard and go totally socialistmarxist...speculators in all commodities will be here like it or not.”

We weren’t a socialistmarxist country before speculators starting buying oil on the futures market where they sit on it (on paper because they don’t actually take delivery of it) driving up the prices of futures. Ending that practice on wall street is not the same thing as socializing the oil industry.

How much will be too much? When it’s $9-$10 dollars a gallon. When even our national security is as stake because of how much oil we need for military training and operations? What will be the benefit of this kind of speculation then? What if more investment firms get on board doing this? This could be the beginning of gas prices going even much higher. Drilling here and drilling now would offset this some but by how much?

Bless you for your kind words.

I don’t, per se, consider myself as running down anyone’s wholesale institution . . . except that I think RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS OF EVERY STRIPE tend to be destructive to relationships with God. And the older and more !!!TRADITION!!! BOUND, the worse they seem to be, in my experience. And I find that quite independent of doctrinal particulars though SOME doctrines seem to exacerbate some excesses in SOME institutions.

I hope you saw Markomalley and I’s exchanges this evening . . . I forget the thread.

I really don’t see myself running down anyone’s church more than I do my own, per se.

I relentlessly, . . . assault destructive things in the Body of Christ wherever I find them.

Most of that which I assault in my own belief system, I tend to do locally and in those arenas where such folks are represented.

I understand your perspective. I appreciate your kind words. I’m grieved you see my comments about the RC experience as you do. But I can understand them.

The puppet master reps told the pipeline chaplain 10+ years ago that they were going to raise the price to $10/gal.

Purely an arbitrary manipulation.

You really don’t understand how markets and free trade work, do you?

Consider the one commodity for which Congress has banned futures trading: onions

Then check and see if that action improved price stability.

Hint: onion farmers would tell you “No.”

Actually the Republicans can go home and use this very effectively. They can point out that they WANTED to stay and vote on REAL solutions, but were prevented by the arrogant Democrats who only want to force Americans to follow their 'green' solutions, and keeping oil and gas prices high is part of their strategy. They're certainly NOT for the 'little people' who are hurt disproportionately by them.

The President doesn't need to force the House back in session. He's giving the Democrats this rope to hang themselves. If your opponent is harming himself, stay out of his way!

YES, the President has the constitutional authority to convene both houses of Congress in 'extraordinary' circumstances - the energy crisis certainly qualifies as 'extraordinary' to all but the Pelosicrats (who do love to Demagogue over gas prices etc. but won't DO anything about it).

Last time it was done was Pres. Truman in 1948, but it used to be done many times before that. Demagogues will scream but the comparison to Truman shouldd be loudly and firmly invoked. btw, it proved to be a political boon for Truman to do so, as it made him appear strong and decisive when his poll standing and re-election prospects had been fading badly. Pres. Bush obviously is not up for re-election, but his pary and his country desperately need him to deliver a firm kick in the teeth to the vicious Pelosicrats. Make Congress re-convence and DEMAND that they vote on drilling (will make obvious that the Pelosicrats are blocking a vote b/c they know they are in the minority now on this issue due to defections of nervous "blue dog" Democrats.

Demagogues would scream that it was all 'political' but of course everything THEY do is partisan politics in the extreme.

excerpt from US Constitution on President's power to convene both houses of Congress:

-----------------------------------------------------

Section 3 - State of the Union, Convening Congress

He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in Case of Disagreement between them, with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper....

Then we need to keep the pressure on them. Let’s keep them to their word. Contact those congressmen, tell your friends and family to do the same, and let them know that we will stand behind them for as long as it takes. This is our economic national security at stake here, and it’s about time to do something about this. If they are going to “say” that they’ll stay there until the vote is cast, let’s hold them to it so we know they are serious about this. It’s time to expect more from our representatives and be able to believe what they say, and, let’s not forget, it would make a big impact on conservatives and Republicans all across the country. Look at how excited and jazzed up everyone is after just five hours Republican chutzpah. Show up on Monday, talk all day, and people are going to notice, and then we can get some real momentum.

Let’s see them do that, and then let’s see how we can lend support to them. I know most of us have jobs or seeking to acquire one soon, so we are at a disadvantage to the Democrat masses in the available numbers sense, but how quickly could we organize a joint protest with the Republicans? We wouldn’t all necessarily have to take 5 weeks off from work. Organize it right, and I bet you could find a good number of people (couple thousand at least) willing to donate a couple days over the next five weeks to travel to Washington and sit in the House Chamber (if able) with the Republicans, while they give their speeches or just talk with the attendees about ideas, and have a true “national” town hall meeting. Ball gets rolling just right, and you may have protesters spilling onto the street.

I have no idea how to do this, but it starts with a campaign this weekend to get as many of those representatives back to Washington on Monday.

There’s energy in the air. Let’s take advantage of it.

In fact, and I know this sounds utterly crazy to all but my sleep deprived mind (too energized by today to sleep), but would it be at all possible to get Rush to do a Saturday or Sunday show, even if for just an hour? He already produces a “Weekend Edition” show, so he already has time with stations across the country. The audience may not be as large, but certainly large enough (especially if the media makes mention of it) to command an audience. I know he doesn’t like getting involved in things like this, but something tells me this might be different.

This is truly a chance to make a stand against the Democrats and liberalism on an issue that affects all Americans. For too long we have let them have their way, and right now we can take a stand and demand that they capitulate to us and have the backing of a lot of people who may not have supported us before. We have 25 allies in the House, and we need them to be leaders, but we need to let them know that we will stand behind them. An hour of live Rush on a Saturday to spread the word about the campaign might just be enough to get them back to Washington on Monday.
