A young man beheaded in a savage knife attack on a Canadian cross-country bus has been identified by friends as a "bubbly" 22-year-old man.
Canadian police have not yet formally confirmed the victim's identity, but friends paid tribute on Facebook and in e-mails to Canadian media.
One told broadcaster CBC that Tim McLean, the presumed victim, was loved by many and called him a "ladies man".
Police have charged a 40-year-old man with second-degree murder.
Vince Weiguang Li, 40, of Edmonton, is now scheduled to appear at court in Manitoba.

You're just slandering immigrants here. Even moreso than the US, Canada is a nation of immigrants. The fact that a loon like this goes off every once in a while in no way overrides the benefits of immigration for Canada. Chinese immigration has brought a lot of incredibly productive people to Canada. In any event, even with a higher immigration rate over the last few decades, Canada has a much lower crime rate than the US.
Its funny how someone said more likely schizophrenic then Muslim. You know, its way more common for Muslims to go out stabbing and beheading people then schizophrenics.
The vast majority of crimes in Canada and the US have nothing to do with religion or politics. Let's not devolve into hyperbole here.
Im betting on Uighur. Muslim Chinese.
The guy's last name is Li. That's about as Mandarin as you can get.
Canada has a points-based immigration system. In 2007, more than half of all Canadian immigrants fell into the category of skilled workers and their family members.

There don't seem to be many standards in either country for legal immigration (with the possible exception of Caucasians), and of course illegal immigrants enter with no controls whatsoever.
See above regarding Canada's standards for immigrants. As to illegal immigrants, Canada has a much lower percentage of illegals than the US- the high number I've seen is maybe 120,000, which translates to maybe a tenth of what there is in the US, based on population.
“The point and connection I didn’t make very well is that the PC mindset that most likely brought this man to Canada (legally or illegally) is the same as we see happening here in the USA.

See, now you're ruining the popular sport of knee-jerking and jumping to conclusions.
My prediction? This guy was high on drugs or he is mentally unbalanced. A grisly, but routine, murder.

IF that report is correct—we can pretty much rule out the Muslim terror angle.
.............In Maine , we get a bit tetchy, riding the cross country bus, when you sit there mile after mile after mile, your hand goes into your valise, and wraps around that razor sharp bull knife you bought at Anderson's Hardware on Main Street in Portland......
Obviously Vince Weiguang Li is some kind of nut case, or ...possessed.( Do you know what it takes to cut a persons head off with a knife?????)
Poor Tim McLean, dies asleep and just sitting there. Thats the trouble with Canadian Law. No death penalty.
Or maybe he is loonier than Tom Kite. Who knows?
“Chinese. And much more likely schizophrenic than Muslim.”
Maybe one of his other personalities converted.
I think it should be mandatory that all violent criminals be tested for drugs when arrested and a study should be done on that. I can’t imagine any other reason. This guy was 40 years old. Somebody that nuts should have been locked up a long time ago.
Edmonton, the killer’s home town, apparently has a big Muslim community. Just wondering.
Strong Chinese presence in Indonesia! I am in China, and now want to ask folks here whether Chinese Muslims emigrate much to Indonesia.
I am ever so curious myself(!) WHY this is not 1st degree murder.
Pretty much the same as the US, and I'm sure you meant 'mid 19th century'.

I speculate that it could easily be both: methamphetamine, mental imbalance and blades go together often.
Here in NZ there is a court case underway now comprising a guy who machine-gunned one victim after using a samurai sword to chop the hands off two other victims. Mental illness, methamphetamine, blade...
And two years ago, on the main street of the town I live in, a guy ran amuck with a knife, stabbed a mate of mine, stabbed and killed another fellow, and withstood several shots from a Glock. He was ultimately tackled by a parking attendant, and eventually escaped a murder charge due to insanity. Mental illness, methamphetamines, blade...
All these people who are hoping the Accused is muslim need to get a grip: there are evil folk out there who aren’t muslim — like the two that I just cited. And like that nut that ran amuck at Virginia Tech.
With a name like Li, I’d speculate Mainland China, recent immigrant. Chinese immigration has been a great thing for Canada, on balance. They tend to make excellent immigrants, they settle in well, and after a generation max they fully assimilate. And they do the same in NZ.
If a white man had committed this crime against a non-white, the white man would be made to be one of the most famous men in the country for the next year.
Greatly vexing.
