“The point and connection I didn’t make very well is that the PC mindset that most likely brought this man to Canada (legally or illegally) is the same as we see happening here in the USA.
Canada has a points-based immigration system. In 2007, more than half of all Canadian immigrants fell into the category of skilled workers and their family members.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/statistics/facts2007/01.asp

There don’t seem to be many standards in either country for legal immigration (with the possible exception of Caucasians), and of course illegal immigrants enter with no controls whatsoever.

See above regarding Canada’s standards for immigrants. As to illegal immigrants, Canada has a much lower percentage of illegals than the US- the high number I’ve seen is maybe 120,000, which translates to maybe a tenth of what there is in the US, based on population.”

For the record, significant Chinese immigration to Canada began in the mid 18th century with the gold rush and the building of the Trans-Canadian railroad.
No one has any idea whether the murderer is a recent arrival or a many generational Chinese-Canadian.
The first ever Chinese arrived in Canada in 1788 and worked in the British Columbian ship building industry.
Also Uyghers do not have Han Chinese names.

See, now you're ruining the popular sport of knee-jerking and jumping to conclusions.

My prediction? This guy was high on drugs or he is mentally unbalanced. A grisly, but routine, murder.

Pretty much the same as the US, and I'm sure you meant 'mid 19th century'.
