As Senator Barack Obama turns to the choice of his running mate, Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine has emerged as one of the campaign’s potential finalists, sources familiar with conversations in Richmond and in Chicago said.

Kaine, an early Obama supporter whose biography nicely dovetails with the Illinois senator’s, "ranks very, very high on the short list," said a source who has spoken recently to senior Obama aides about Kaine.

Kaine "is getting a critical examination," the source said.

He reminds me of someone who is an operative in the Chicago area. I don’t know anything about this guy but if I had to guess, he looks very slick...more than WJC, if I may say so. I don’t trust this guy.

No chance he gets picked.

From Wikipedia:
“Tim Kaine has stated he has a “faith-based opposition to abortion”. [2] He also supports promoting abstinence and opposes partial-birth abortion.[3] Tim Kaine is a member of Democrats For Life of America.”

I have read that 40 percent of democrats oppose abortion. Also, I wonder if Tim Kaine would make the ticket palatable to voters opposing abortion. Especialy those who find McCain’s abortion stand a road block to support.

Kaine, an early Obama supporter whose biography nicely dovetails with the Illinois senator’s, "ranks very, very high on the short list," said a source who has spoken recently to senior Obama aides about Kaine.

His experience dovetails nicely as well. small-city mayor and a few years screwing up a state as Governor.

No foreign policy experience. No military experience. No national leadership experience.

A Catholic who opposes the death penalty, but nonetheless promised to carry out the death penalty -- and has since commuted at least one death row conviction.

A Catholic who "opposes abortion", but promised to defend a woman's right to choose.

A man who first said he would support the Virginia Marriage Amendment, but then turned around and opposed it, claiming problems with the "language" which in fact had not changed.

A man who promised a transportation "lock-box", but never submitted one. Who promised not to raise taxes, and then tried to raise taxes.

A man who modified an already bad "abusive driver" fee to exclude non-residents.

A man who brings no real constituency, and who may not even help carry the state.

A man who has been so bad at his job that a web site that was named after him has CHANGED THEIR NAME to disassociate themselves from him.

No chance he gets picked.

I agree with you. No chance.

The Democrat party is wholly owned by the abortion lobby. They were willing to allow it with Kaine because it allowed him to win a southern state. No way they let him go national with it (unless he flip flops at the last minute, which means the media will accuse anyone who brings it up of "swiftboating" him).

I don’t see the comparison. Kaine was a missionary in the Catholic Church. He is white. He never served in a state legislature, instead he was powerless mayor, and then 3 years as a governor where he’s failed at everything.

It is true that neither served in the military, but beyond that I just don’t see the comparison.

Those are all largely lies though. He promised to uphold a woman’s right to choose, and has done so consistantly as Governor. He cut the paltry abstinence budget in Virginia claiming it didn’t do any good, and whether he is a member of a “life” group or not he has been pro-choice.

He supports a woman’s right to choose. He’s pro-choice. He’s only “personally” against abortion. I guess if he ever gets pregnant he’ll carry to term.

........ he has been pro-choice.

Not if you are a private business owner who wishes to permit smoking tobacco products in your establishment.

He is definitely not pro-choice then.

Palin has a family to raise. That should be her main priority and I think it is.
