Fourteen years and numerous judicial reviews have passed since José Medellin was sentenced to die after confessing to the brutal gang rape and murder of two teenage girls in Houston.
That's long enough, state officials say. It's time to carry out the sentence.
But defense attorneys, and an unusual coalition of federal officials, including no less than the attorney general and secretary of state, say if his Aug. 5 execution is not stayed, so Mr. Medellin's case can be reviewed one more time at the behest of the International Court of Justice, Texas will be rushing to judgment and endangering Americans abroad.
"Put simply, the United States seeks the help of the State of Texas," Attorney General Michael Mukasey and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice wrote Texas Gov. Rick Perry in a letter released by defense attorneys.

times up...time to die....
These federal officials should be tried for treason. And then shot.
I agree, hang them.
There is nothing more to litigate. There is simply a disagreement between the State of Texas and the World Court. Tell the World Court to pound sand and move on.

No, hang them with a rope...
These federal officials should be tried for treason. And then shot.”
More waste of taxpayer dollars by people who have their own self-importance pumped way out of proportion to the facts of the case.
Wonder just how swiftly this perp killed his victims?????
Way too much taxpayer money is spent on these kinds of things.
Death week, not death row.
Seriously, why is it that we are abiding by the “World Court” when no one else would dare give up their soverignty?
Empirical Power we are, that is for damned sure.
Yet, we don’t act like one.
- John Adams
We are not beholden to or under the authority of any world court.
If other places want to try and harm Americans over this, when a brutal murder of two young girls took place, then they will suffer 1st the loss of trade with the US as people and companies quit going there, and if they push it too far, they will suffer under the force of arms of the US Marines.
That's how this should work and these other nations better damn well be aware of it.
The SCOTUS has ruled that this is a State, not a federal, issue. Just do it, Texas!
Fire them all... then a public hanging for the scumbag.
we have gotten to the point where we worry more about offending outside nations. look at what we are becoming since we did away with America first. i shake my head each day.
The “World Court” isn’t looking for a flaw in the case, the world opinion is that the death penalty is “wrong”. Not so much public outcry against the gang rape and murder of two teenaged girls.
The victims were hispanic too so there is no racial element to this seeking punishment. The father one of the girls publicly speaks out these days that he agrees with the punishment.
world court??? this “court” doesn´t exist in this world.
Did you mean “Imperial” power?...............
This act of anti-American treason, the Bush Admin supporting the rights of an illegal alien scumbag murderer over the rights of American citizens, is sickening.
And there are still people who believe Bush and the GOP is conservative...
