WASHINGTON One of the wealthiest counties in America reports crime skyrocketing by 22 percent in the first quarter of 2008, while its neighbor saw crime plummet by 19.3 percent in the same time period coinciding with a get-tough policy on illegal immigration.
Prince William County in Northern Virginia, a bedroom community for the nation's capital, made national news late last year with a crackdown on illegal immigration that supervisors believed was triggering higher crime and lower living standards.
Prince William County reported a 19.3 percent decline in crime, with chairman of the Board of County Supervisors Corey Stewart attributing the downturn to the hard line the county has taken toward illegal immigrants.
"One quarter doesn't tell us a lot," said county police spokeswoman Mary Ann Jennings. "It shows us where they may be some trends developing."

Oh Rly?
During the 1950s, however, this "Good Old Boy" system changed under Eisenhower - if only for about 10 years.
In 1954, Ike appointed retired Gen. Joseph "Jumpin' Joe" Swing, a former West Point classmate and veteran of the 101st Airborne, as the new INS commissioner.
Influential politicians, including Sen. Lyndon B. Johnson (D) of Texas and Sen. Pat McCarran (D) of Nevada, favored open borders, and were dead set against strong border enforcement, Brownell said. But General Swing's close connections to the president shielded him - and the Border Patrol - from meddling by powerful political and corporate interests.
One of Swing's first decisive acts was to transfer certain entrenched immigration officials out of the border area to other regions of the country where their political connections with people such as Senator Johnson would have no effect.
Then on June 17, 1954, what was called "Operation Wetback" began. Because political resistance was lower in California and Arizona, the roundup of aliens began there. Some 750 agents swept northward through agricultural areas with a goal of 1,000 apprehensions a day.
By the end of July, over 50,000 aliens were caught in the two states. Another 488,000, fearing arrest, had fled the country.
By mid-July, the crackdown extended northward into Utah, Nevada, and Idaho, and eastward to Texas.
By September, 80,000 had been taken into custody in Texas, and an estimated 500,000 to 700,000 illegals had left the Lone Star State voluntarily.
Now, to me, that's in the neighborhood of 1,200,000 in three months.
By my cyphering, we can get rid of the mere 6,000,000 claimed by the doofuses --- in about 12 months!
Your logic...that they steal jobs...is ridiculous.
There’s nobody hollering in Montgomery County, Maryland that an illegal stole his job.
Full employment is full employment.
Now....if you’re inferring that some small businesses are being outbid for construction jobs because you think they can do it cheaper because they employ illegals...well welcome to Free Markets.
As long as the Federal Government collects a half TRILLION in unclaimed FICA taxes...nobody is going to feel sorry for you.
Take your hostility out on the government....not the illegal Hispanic who is just trying to improve his lot in life.
It depends on your perspective as far as what constitutes FULL employent. If you are black or Hispanic, it is beginning to look like a depression.
FYI: We have 304.7 million people. We have added 23 million people since 2000 or about the current population of Texas. The majority of the increase comes from immigration, legal and illegal.
I am a registered Democrat. Running out of real arguments are you?
Laws that aren't enforced, are really valid laws, IMO. The image you portray is not the least bit flattering....so please....keep it up. If you dare.
If you were to rewrite that in undestandable English, I might respond.
Suffice to say that "illegal" still means illegal.
Carefully tiptoeing around that inconvenient fact makes you look comical, posturing and well... clueless; not in the least bit "flattering".
What we were able and willing to do in 1954 is very different from what we are able and willing to do in 2008. You know the old cliche- politics is the art of the possible. And in this day and age, it simply isn't possible, politically, to round up hundreds of thousands of illegals, put them on buses and ship them back to Mexico.
How long do you think such a program would last with pictures of crying mothers clutching babies being forced onto buses playing on TV every night?
No- our current approach seems to be working in lowering the numbers of illegals. Let's stick with it for now and see how far it goes.
Cry me a Freeping river. They're criminals by definition. If they aren't legally authorized to work or live here, GTFO.
As far as the rest of your little rant somehow connecting these crackdowns with the mortgage 'crisis', oh well. Perhaps they shouldn't make loans to people who are breaking the law just by being in this country.
Just a thought....
L
What does liberal MontCo have to do with anything I said?
Your hositility toward me is WAY over the line.
..........not the illegal Hispanic who is just trying to improve his lot in life.
I don't a rat's rearend if the illegal is Hispanic or a Martian, illegal is illegal and they have NO RIGHT to ANY job in this country.
I suggest you stay on your side of the Bay and off the DelMarVa Peninsula with your attitude, we don't appreciate it over here.
LOL! You’re a registered RAT and posting on FR since 99?
You continue to be registered as a RAT despite Clinton, Gore, Kerry, Pelosi, Reed....and all their un-American special interest groups....and you have the audacity to question my position? On anything?
Get lost.
MY so-called hostility toward you originates with your woefully ignorant statement that they stole jobs from Americans.
And...though no excuse...for which I apologize to you...for the fact that your one of a dozen posters who are conversing with me at the moment...some of which are buffoons.
So you are saying if you can make more money by breaking the law (and forcing legal business that DO NOT break the law out of business), that's a free market economy?
Hey, you should make meth!! It's not exactly legal but I understand the bottom line is killer.
What, they don't have a place to live? No food? Maybe they shouldn't have sent all that remittance back to Mexico?
BTW Ese, there are likely a few AMERICAN CITIZENS out on the streets. What about them?
“the burglaries and thefts”
They started stealing from you and me and the rest of the country the minute they laid foot here.
My suggestion; get a bus ticket for 4, 5 or how ever many of them there are and go home.
The Land of Milk and Honey has soured.
Your personal opinion is as valid as anyone else's. Mine happens to be based upon personal experience. One comes to many perspectives on issues in life based upon personal experience. Consider yourself lucky to know no one who is havign trouble finding employment because of illegals or is forced to take a pay cut because of the illegals.
95% employment is a national average, different areas have different percentages. I guarantee you that folks in Somerset County have a different attitude about illegals than those in Montgomery Cty, just like those of us in Accomack have a different attitude than those in Fairfax.
Illegal is illegal and if they have a job here it is because it was stolen from someone who can legitimately work here.
“Hey, you should make meth!! It’s not exactly legal but I understand the bottom line is killer.”
Couldn’t of said it better. Good one!
Maybe. Maybe not.
Semi-pros?
You do remember that dcp has acknowledged often that he profits from the illegals, don’t you?

His "compassion" is self-serving. He long ago admitted that he and his business profit from illegals. He is crying for his own lost revenues.
No, I did not remember that. If true, that would explain his/her hostility toward those of us with experience in the stealling of jobs by the illegals.

Good, oh wise one...now explain the murders and assaults and rapes committed by your illegal pals.
