Talk Radio Network, the syndicator of Michael Savage's "Savage Nation" radio show, issued the following statement today:
On Michael Savage's Autism Comments
There have been numerous calls in recent days for Michael Savage, who hosts The Michael Savage Show for Talk Radio Network (the Network), to be fired or suspended for his brief 84 seconds of commentary concerning autism during the July 16th broadcast of the Show.
Promptly after the Networks management learned of the comments in issue, the Network commenced an investigation into the particulars and the circumstances of those comments. This investigation began with the Networks CEO, Mark Masters, personally contacting Dr. Savage to address the concerns and obtain an explanation of the comments directly from Dr. Savage.
In that conversation, and other subsequent conversations between Mr. Masters and Dr. Savage, Dr. Savage explained the circumstances and intent of his statements in considerable detail. The Network also carefully monitored subsequent broadcasts of the Show, on Monday, July 21st and Tuesday, July 22nd, which were devoted to the subject of autism and further explanations by Dr. Savage of his views on the subject.

(BTW, he has never hid his true name often over the almost 15 years referring listeners to his several books prior to his radio career.)
Savage has from the start rejected party affiliation -- a big plus for me because I loathe both the Rat Party (formerly the traditional, patriotic Democratic Party) and the Republican Party. Levin is not too happy with many Republicans but I forget exactly the name he uses to label them.
Why do I hate the Party? It goes back a few years. I remember the Rockefeller Republicans joining the JFK/LBJ liberals and screaming "purveyors of hate!" "racist!" and more at Goldwater and supporters.
In the words of Nelson Rockefeller's public relations head, Stuart Spencer, "We had to destroy Barry Goldwater as a member of the human race." The Conservative Revolution: The Movement That Remade America, by Lee Edwards
It's what you guys do.
That 'splains your contumely and intolerance. You belong to a political party!
I met John McCain while I was a voting delegate in 95' during the Louisiana State GOP Convention as President of the UofL Lafayette College Republicans. At that time, he was a pretty solid with an ACU rating of 94. We all know what happened after that.
Most Weiner fans admit to voting Dubya again if they had to do it again. Does that make you Al Qaeda if you didn't? Weiner logic would dictate this however.
Phil Gramm was one of the most Conservative members of the US Senate. His 2000 ACU rating was 100, and his lifetime rating was 94 before he retired.
Still you say...
"your 3 pictures where you are proudly fawning besides GOP bigwigs, all considered "Progressives" by most constitutional conservatives."
Would it be unfair for me to say that you are not grounded in reality?
Do you believe that the opposite is a virtue?
One's ideology cannot be effectively propagated without one.
Weiner often says, "I'll never vote Republican again", then the next day saying that he has to so the rats don't win. Thats just one issue he often flip flops on. However, many of his fans aren't as manic as he is and don't flop as much as he flips.
When the GOP is brought back to the fold, I'll embrace it again wholeheartedly like I once did.
Wow, how dramatic an amazing stretch of "logic".
Good thing he didn’t call anybody “nappy”, eh?
It was a declarative statement of fact.
Gov. Scranton called Goldwater and supporters "purveyors of hate." Rockefeller Republicans routinely intimated that Goldwater and supporters had KKK connections. LBJ/JFK liberals screamed it everyday.
I have not forgotten and I will not forget. The liberal wing of the Republican Party today is doing the same thing, I believe, by calling for an update to the definition/importance of conservatism and re-evaluating the importance of Reagan, some having already thrown Goldwater "under the bus" years ago.
At least some columnists have broached the subject.
He's an emotional guy that loves his country and wears his heart on his sleeve, and that is bound to produce a lot of points that might appear to differ from one day to the next.
For instance, after Nick berg had his head cut off on videotape while surrounded by a bunch of chanting muslim satanists, Savage wanted Bush to level the entire city of Falujah and deal with the ramifications of that later. Then, after no one seemed to really care all that much about what happened to Berg, he took his frustrations out on Bush. So what? Politics is an ever fluid environment. Somedays, maybe a politician does something Savage can respect, and he will give them props, and the next, they will do something stupid, and he will rip them to shreds. That's just as it should be. Implying that Savage isn't a "conservative" is ludicrous though, at least imo. The first time I ever heard him, he was ripping Bush about something and I thought he was a liberal. The next time, he was ripping leftists and protecting Bush, and I realized that the guy is just a conservative that doesn't have his mind on autopilot when it comes to defending everyone and everything under the Republican party banner.
Great job, Savage. Keep up the great work. When Dems AND Repubs both hate your guts, you know you're doing something right.
Correction, Savage has 2 dogs to feed. As usual you're behind the curb when 'spewing' misinformation about Savage. You would make CAIR and Media Matters proud.
Well said Smedley, but the Savage haters are too blinded by hate to embrace the ‘truth’.
That's a good point and in general I agree with your comments about Savage and his show. I've listened to Savage almost from the day he started on local radio in S.F. Ditto Rush BTW, since the very first day he started on local radio in Sacramento.
Savage nor any of us need a party to tell what and how to think, if the party is wrong then it is our duty to not support it. It they are downright hostile as I have experienced vis-a-vis Goldwater then it's time to separate.
Or on matters like disrespecting our heritage as a Nation of laws not men; the Republican Party is wrong -- no matter how important docile, cheap and taxpayer subsidized ILLEGAL alien labor is for some Republicans.
Being a moron still makes you a moron. Wear it with pride!
So Savage is an individual and not a gentleman in the Republican club. He’s still a Conservative and you are still a moron.
The correct term is “bald faced liar”. BALD. B - A - L - D. Buy a clue from Vanna.
Savage drives me nuts half the time, and half the time he seems to read my mind. But he is his own mand, and worms like Lormand don’t like that. They like Republican shills in the vein of Sean Hannity. I like Hannity, but crap, he generally just tows the Republican party line. Sure, he beat on them about immigration, but it’s still a rare divide.
Lormand doesn’t want to be challenged by a true Conservative like Savage who ONLY stands on his principles. Lormand seizes on the times Savage has co-opted liberals to fight a battle, like using Schumer to kill the Dubai Ports deal.
If Lormand hates Savage, he would have DESPISED Winston Churchill.
Your posts to Lormand seem to always describe him rather aptly, lol. He's tried for ages to get the Savage thread kicked off FreeRepublic, so of course he's believable when he says he's NOT wishing to get Savage kicked off the air, lol. With so-called conservatives like Lormand around who needs liberals?
I don’t like to insult anybody and I know FreeRepublic frowns on it. It is just frustrating. Occasionally I run into Freepers so dense or so uninformed, it is just frustrating. They try your patience.
“...Media Matters, haters of all that is good, an organization led by of all things a Sodomite, how appropriate and symbolic.”
Are you implying that Weiner runs Media Matters?
“The right to free speech does not include the right to a three-hour syndicated radio talk show.”
Yes, you are right - good point! I guess what bothered me was the eagerness with which so many embraced their ‘victimhood.’ As I heard them, Savage’s remarks were not directed at any specific individuals (unlike Imus), and his criticisms were not really new - such comments have been around for a while. Maybe they have merit; maybe they don’t. But the rush to silence such opinions seems to me to be a dangerous thing.
