The US federal government on Wednesday said it would open 3.9m acres of land in a designated petroleum reserve in Alaska for drilling as a means to help curb rising petrol prices.
“This is welcome news at a time when Americans are paying record prices at the pump,” said C. Stephen Allred, assistant US Secretary for Land and Minerals. “Together with proposed new production from other offshore and onshore areas, these increased supplies will help to stabilise energy costs.’’
The Alaska decision follows one by President George W. Bush on Monday to lift a presidential ban on drilling on the US outer continental shelf, off Florida. That decision still requires Congress to lift a separate ban on the area before the area can be leased for development.
But the Bureau of Land Management, an agency within the US Department of the Interior, said the Alaskan land that will now be offered requires no other approvals and will be up for leasing in the autumn.

Actually, crude oil prices have dropped by more than $15 a barrel in the past three days. The report on Fox indicates that the National average price of fuel has not changed by a single cent despite this three day drop in crude oil prices. Prices at the pump where we buy gasoline has dropped a few cents over the past couple of days. I hope this is the start of a trend.

It’s amazing, when someone in Iran farts the price of oil goes up $5 a barrel, and in turn gasoline goes up a dime the very next day, but when we announce we are finally making small headway in Alaska, even though the price of oil drops $15 in 3 days, the price of gasoline will take 2 weeks to drop 2 cents!! Can anyone say, PRICE GOUGING.

A report these evening said that each dollar drop should cause about 2 1/2 cents decrease, so $15 should bring it down about 37 1/2 cents. To check out daily oil prices to 2015, see:

Actually, I mean you can check each day to see that day’s prices for month’s futures to 2015.
I also heard more about Al Gore’s proposal to have all electricity using renewable US sources in 10 years. T. Boone Pickens has been pushing wind energy in Texas and the middle west. Today, the Texas legislature, I think,approved $4.9 billion to construct a link between Texas wind fields and east Texas cities. I guess there might be a connection.

Driving through southern Colorado and northern New Mexico this afternoon and evening, I passed a lot of wind generators - and all of them were standing still. Not a breath of wind was there.
What we really need is a way of harnessing T.Boone Pickens' hot air...
That “American Solutions for Real Change” webpage has a “Click here for real Red, White and Blue Solutions” in English, but the Spanish version says something altogether different.
Why is there even a Spanish version.

That seems to be the daily mission of congress. Nothing seems to phase them except the fear of losing their elections.
The word “that” at the beginning of the sentence which you bolded refers to the off-shore drilling ban, not the ban in Alaska.
If just a small step in the right direction can cut oil prices, think of what decisive action would me for our economy.
My next question would be, is there any oil on this land? The rats seem to grudgingly allow exploration in certain places, as long as they know there aren’t any economic oil reserves on them.
We may not. I think demand was slumping so much that the Companies have been trying like hell to keep pump prices down, despite what all the Voices would have you believe. I’m not sure the pump price yet reflects $130/bbl oil.
Hobama is so vulnerable on this issue, but as always I have to wonder if McCain will put it to him. He likes the fellow.
I think some of the rats have been trying to talk down the economy for so long now they’ve forgotten which side they’re supposed to be on.
Those would be factors that would affect the price of oil when they result in concrete action such as the Texas Legislature’s allocation. All the factors that might affect the price should be combined, whether Federal, State, Local, or private. Lately there is considerable action compared to any period in the past 30 years. We’re on the move. Retail gasoline should be dropping, although the full 35 cents decrease might take a month to work through the system.
