Obama courts evangelicals
Herald Sun ^ | 2 July 2008

Posted on 07/01/2008 8:23:45 PM PDT by Aussie Dasher

DEMOCRATIC presidential candidate Barack Obama has promised a more active approach to faith-based social programs in a bid to bolster his support among evangelical and religious voters.

Obama visited a community ministry in a conservative region of the election battleground state of Ohio today to unveil a plan to reinvigorate faith-based community programs pioneered by President George W. Bush.

The Illinois senator, who will face Republican John McCain in November's presidential election, said he would put more money and emphasis on strengthening the link between government and community faith programs.

"The fact is, the challenges we face today - from saving our planet to ending poverty - are simply too big for government to solve alone," Senator Obama said. "We need an all-hands-on-deck approach."

Senators McCain and Obama are gearing up for a pitched battle for evangelical support in November's election. Neither candidate has inspired strong enthusiasm in the religious community, normally a core Republican bloc.

Most polls show Senator McCain beating Senator Obama by 3-to-1 or more among evangelicals, but Senator Obama hopes to do better among the group than Democrat John Kerry did in 2004, when Mr Bush won four of every five evangelicals.

The ‘RATS warned us after the election in 2004 that they were going to do this. We should have been expecting it.

Obama actually believes that Christians who care about Roe v. Wade are actually going to believe that he won’t appoint judges like Ginsburg? We all know that the second a Dem gets elected, Stevens will retire and the Dem will appoint a young one just like him. Stevens is the oldest serving justice and is only waiting for a Dem to get elected!

Obama's Church: Gospel of Hate
Kathy Shaidle, FrontPageMag.com
Monday, April 07, 2008

In March of 2007, FOX News host Sean Hannity had engaged Obama’s pastor in a heated interview about his Church’s teachings. For many viewers, the ensuing shouting match was their first exposure to "Black Liberation Theology"...

Like the pro-communist Liberation Theology that swept Central America in the 1980s and was repeatedly condemned by Pope John Paul II, Black Liberation Theology combines warmed-over 1960s vintage Marxism with carefully distorted biblical passages. However, in contrast to traditional Marxism, it emphasizes race rather than class. The Christian notion of "salvation" in the afterlife is superseded by "liberation" on earth, courtesy of the establishment of a socialist utopia.

From Jeff Head's website...
One notable quote from [James] Cone describing his Black Liberation Theology is as follows:

"Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community ... Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love." - "Divine Racism: The Unacknowledged Threshold Issue for Black Theology", in African-American Religious Thought: An Anthology, by William R Jones, ed Cornel West and Eddie Glaube (Westminster John Knox Press).

From the Louis Farrakhan/Nation of Islam website, Final Call...
Malik Zulu Shabazz, chairman of the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense (NBPP):
"We are happy today to be standing side by side with the Nation of Islam. We believe, like the Nation of Islam and the Honorable Elijah Muhammad believe, in a nation of our own. We believe in a Black first philosophy and a Black Liberation Theology. We don’t worry about the criticism. We love all of those who labored in the Panther Party from the ’60s. Many are with us today."

He’s courting folks like Brian McLaren and Rick Warren. McLaren is not a Christian. He denies essential truth. Rick Warren is ... lets say, driven...by the wrong things. Neither represent the faith.

are simply too big for government to solve alone

At least it is out in the open, now. Obama believes that government is the most important thing on earth - the primary instrument of morality in the world.

And that he believes that religion is an also-ran.

"I came to see my faith as being both a personal commitment to Christ and a commitment to my community - while I could sit in church and pray all I want, I wouldn't be fulfilling God's will unless I went out and did the Lord's work," he said.

I think he forgot the appropriate ending:

He continued, "Therefore, I have consistently voted in support of murdering full term infants through a brain-puncturing and vacuuming procedure known as partial-birth abortion, and have stood firmly against life-saving medical care for newly born infants that my Lord delivered from attempted abortions."

Of course it’s a cynical no lose proposition for him to support the faith-based initiative — he can hoodwink conservative Christians into voting for him while he enlargens the role of the government in religious charities so as to be able to impose liberal norms on sexual morality, etc. on the latter.

Nominal christians, yes … true Chistians (hopefully), no.

"Evangelical" is a broad media term, often used to insinuate that faithful, Cross-oriented Christians are media-driven, soundbite-oriented Christians with very little education--or at least such is the impression one is given.

United Methodists might consider themselves "evangelical," but they aren't in the historical Reformation sense. A lot of the Joel Osteen followers might also consider themselves to be "evangelicals," but I have to ask, "Just what does that term mean these days?" Accepting the MSM's definition of 'evangelical' is plainly stupid.

Orthodox, Bible-believing Christians will have nothing to do with Obama, so your point is well taken.
