· Candidate's stance at odds with former position
· Democrat backs death penalty for child rapist
Barack Obama intensified his campaign to appeal to voters on the life-and-death issues of the American heartland yesterday by stepping away from his past support for gun control.
In the latest in a series of policy reversals for the Democratic presidential candidate, Obama came out in support of yesterday's supreme court decision overturning a gun ban in the city of Washington that had been a model for fighting urban crime.
He had previously supported the Washington ban, the strictest in the US.
It was the second time in 24 hours that Obama had shifted towards a more conservative position. On Wednesday, he took issue with the supreme court for striking down the death penalty for cases of child rape that do not involve murder.
In yesterday's decision, judges struck down Washington's 32-year-old gun ban by a five-to-four margin, saying it was incompatible with the second amendment of the constitution. "Whatever the reason, handguns are the most popular weapon chosen by Americans for self-defence in the home, and a complete prohibition of their use is invalid," the conservative Justice Antonin Scalia said. However, the judges defended the need for firearm bans in schools and public buildings.
Immediately after the ruling Obama and the Republican candidate, John McCain, both sought to exploit one of the most emotive political issues. McCain tried to revive charges that Obama was out of step with smalltown values. Obama ran into controversy last April for telling a fundraiser that Americans in small towns clung to guns and religion out of bitterness.

Sounds like Obama is in this race to win. He is going after the votes that John McCain has staked his entire victory on - and I think he will get them! The ultra-lefties know what he is doing & they’re OK with that - anything to help him win. Now McCain is the one who has thrown his base under the bus. He is running a lackluster race & doesn’t even act like he really wants to win. I think it’s possible McCain could lose worse than McGovern did.
This man must be eliminated as our candidate by the end of our convention. It’s our only hope.

If one does any reading of ‘liberal’ blogs it is clear that Barry supporters are giddily making room for one another under that bus. They acknowledge that he’s lying for politically expediency and heartily endorse his use of lies. They are quite comfortable with the knowledge that he’ll wobble back to the extreme left if elected.
I must have missed that part...
He’s even looking whiter in that photo!
The Obama campaign’s mission in life right now is to make Obama appear as moderate as possible. “Obama the moderate”
is totally at odds with his personal history. While Obama trying to appear more moderate, his leftist supporters are beating the drums for his election. It’s vitally important that conservatives reveal who he truly is.
Next thing you know, he will say he was for the war before he was against it.
He’ll lie and flip flop any way he can to be elected. It’s how democrats have been getting elected for years now. They have no principles.
“Obama came out in support of yesterday’s supreme court decision overturning a gun ban in the city of Washington that had been a model for fighting urban crime.”
Lol, the gun ban was a “model” for fighting urban crime. I’m sure every city in the nation aspires to the model of Washington D.C. when it comes to crime statistics ;)
Obama can say anything he wants to about supporting this decision, but we all know he would appoint justices that would overturn this decision. I hope America’s smart enough to figure this guy out before it’s too late.
He's not looking very black lately, I notice.
Must be hard for him to keep track.
I’ll help. Most of the gun bans were originally passed to keep black people from defending themselves.
No Obama. Don’t thank me.
Beware, the fox wears many faces./Just Asking - seoul62.......
The tragedy is that there is no alternative with a chance to win.
Instead of the change candidate, Hussein ObamaMessiaHamas, will be known as the Ooops Uh Flip-Flop Candidate, who couldn't tell the truth!
Quit your whining about my Flip Flops, Waffling and Lies, you God Loving, Gun owning and Bitter White Patriot Racists!
With a Yosemite Sam hunting cap on? LOL!
From useful to useless idiot? I doubt it.
Flip-flopper is far too cute a term. The man’s a flat-out liar. He’s conniving, duplicitous, power-mad scum.
We’ve never had a man this dangerous so close to the White House in our history.
