Analysis: Faked birth certificate suggests Obama may not be US citizen

t is now a virtual certainty that the "birth certificate" claimed by the Barack Obama campaign as authentic is a photoshopped fake.

The image, purporting to come from the Hawaii Department of Health, has been the subject of intense skepticism in the blogosphere in the past two weeks.

It has become even more suspect with the revelation that variations of the certificate image were posted on the Photobucket image aggregation website -- including one listing the location of Obama's birth as Antarctica, one with the certificate supposedly issued by the government of North Korea, and another including a purported photo of baby Barack -- one of which has a "photo taken" time-stamp just two minutes before the article and accompanying image was posted on the left-wing Daily Kos blog.

That strongly suggests that Daily Kos obtained the image from Photobucket, not the State of Hawaii, the Obama family, or the Obama campaign. Photobucket is not known as a credible supplier of official vital records for any of the fifty states, and the liberties that other Photoshoppers took with the certificates confirms this.

If Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961, he is a U.S. citizen regardless of the citizenship status of either or both of his parents. The issue of his mother's age and length of U.S. residency at the time of his birth has arisen only in response to speculation that Obama was born outside the U.S. (e.g., Kenya).

There’s no evidence of where his mother was living while pregnant. The father was living on campus in Honolulu. If the parents were married, it was a bigamous relationship for him, since he already had a wife and children in Africa.

If we know the father was in Hawaii, then where would the mother be if not in the U.S.? I've heard people say, "Well, the were visitng Kenya when he was born and they snuck him back into the U.S. to get a birth certificate." And if that story is true, then there has to be evidence to support it. I haven't seen any, and I find it hard to believe that the family would engage in some sort of conspiracy with their new born just to ensure he could be elected president 40-odd years later.

Since Ann’s parents disapproved of the relationship, it’s entirely possible that she was “sent away” for the final months of the pregnancy.

Sent away where? Kansas? We may be a bit provincial, but we've been a part of the U.S. since the Louisiana Purchase.

She may well have given birth in Canada. Are there relatives there who would take a pregnant teenager in? That would explain the visit to Mercer Island.

The tale gets wilder by the moment.

We/I would appreciate it if you could do a little documentation for us.

If you find out, please post it and ping me.

Our Navy was totally intregrated by the 1960’s, but I believe that our black sailors as you noted, PCE, were listed as negro or negroid as you noted, on their forms.

I have a hard time believing that if there was anything of substance here the Clinton's wouldn’t have dug it out.

Don't make your enemy into some all-powerful,all-knowing entity. If the Clinton's were so slick, Hillary would be the nominee and not have made so many dumb mistakes.

I’ll tell yoou when since you asked.
When a person puts a forged BC on their website and tries to use it as proof of their qualification, the proof then lies with that person.

Check his mothers passport records for the dates she claims she is in hawaii.

Not quite sure how to break this to you, but you don't need a visa or a passport to go to Hawaii. Not now. Not in 1961.

I still think it’s a diversion. Somebody wants Obama’s opponents to get all spun up over the prospect of a falsified birth certificate, and by the time the real one is produced, we’ve wasted a bunch of time that we could’ve spent fighting his Marxist agenda.

Plus, he's inoculated from any further inquiries into anything relevant.

Interesting you mention passport. I wonder if he has a U.S. passport? Maybe that’s why he won’t go to Iraq?

there is no proof he was born outside the U.S. to begin with...

That's the point, where is the PROOF he was born inside the USA? Absence of evidence he was foreign born does not equal proof he was US born.

Was "African" a race category in 1961?

I would have thought the U.S. Govt would have still been using "Negro".

“Look, just find out if he has a passport. If he does, then he has a birth certificate. “

Wasn’t there something posted a few months ago about Obama’s passport records being breached?

The absolute giveaway that the certificate is a fake is by looking in the bottom left hand corner. Both certificates are purportedly the same revision of the same laser printer form (OHSM 1.1 (Rev 11/01) Laser).

CLEARLY they are NOT.

Someone needs to jump all over this.

The certificate is hosted on the official Obama website.

You'll notice that they intentionally obscured the certificate from examination. The writing is barely legible. Other sites have better resolution of the same birth certificate.

Second, I see that there is no stamp/raised seal or a signature which should accompany it on the birth certificate.

You have a great homepage.

I’m glad that I didn’t have any of my iced tea in my mouth when I started reading your Huck observations.

State of Hawaii

Department of Health

How to Apply for Certified Copies of Vital Records

All applications requesting certified copies of birth, death, marriage, and divorce certificates must generally be made in writing (application forms may be downloaded from this site - see below). Requests may also be placed for birth and marriage certificates on a limited basis through the Internet (www.ehawaiigov.org/ohsm). Telephone, FAX, or e-mail requests are not accepted.

Apply In Person

Walk-in service is available:

When applying in person, the applicant must show a valid government-issued photo ID, such as a State ID, driver's license, etc.

Certified copies are usually not issued on the day the application is made. Same-Day service may be provided upon presentation of written documentation establishing the need for urgency. Certified copies will normally be available for pick-up about 10 working days after the request is approved. The pick-up time may be extended for records that are very old, because the search to locate the record may take longer, or in the process of being filed, because the official record is still being created.

Application forms are available in the building’s lobby area and should be filled in prior to coming to the counter in Room 103.

Apply by Mail

Send mail-in applications to the following address:

State Department of Health
Office of Health Status Monitoring
Issuance/Vital Statistics Section
P.O. Box 3378
Honolulu, HI 96801

When applying by mail, the applicant must include a photocopy of his/her government-issued photo ID, such as a State ID, driver's license, etc.

Certified copies will normally be sent out within 5-8 weeks after receipt and approval of the application. The return time may be extended for records that are very old, because the search to locate the record may take longer, or in the process of being filed, because the official record is still being created.

What Information You Should Be Prepared to Provide

An applicant/requestor must provide the information needed to 1) establish his/her direct and tangible interest in the record and 2) locate the desired record. This will normally include:

Letters of Verification

Letters of verification may be issued in lieu of certified copies (HRS §338-14.3). This document verifies the existence of a birth/death/marriage/divorce certificate on file with the Department of Health and any other information that the applicant provides to be verified relating to the vital event. (For example, that a certain named individual was born on a certain date at a certain place.) The verification process will not, however, disclose information about the vital event contained within the certificate that is unknown to and not provided by the applicant in the request.

Letters of verification are requested in similar fashion and using the same request forms as for certified copies.

The fee for a letter of verification is $5 per letter.

Application Forms

Application forms are available in a “fillable” Adobe Acrobat portable document format (PDF). The Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 (or later) is required for using the fillable forms feature.

The Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 is free to download and install on your computer by clicking on the button:   download Acrobat Reader

Further Information and Assistance

If you require further information about applying for certified copies of vital records or want to check on the status of an accepted request for certified copies of vital records, call (808) 586-4539 or (808) 586-4542 during regular business hours.
