Analysis: Faked birth certificate suggests Obama may not be US citizen

t is now a virtual certainty that the "birth certificate" claimed by the Barack Obama campaign as authentic is a photoshopped fake.

The image, purporting to come from the Hawaii Department of Health, has been the subject of intense skepticism in the blogosphere in the past two weeks.

It has become even more suspect with the revelation that variations of the certificate image were posted on the Photobucket image aggregation website -- including one listing the location of Obama's birth as Antarctica, one with the certificate supposedly issued by the government of North Korea, and another including a purported photo of baby Barack -- one of which has a "photo taken" time-stamp just two minutes before the article and accompanying image was posted on the left-wing Daily Kos blog.

That strongly suggests that Daily Kos obtained the image from Photobucket, not the State of Hawaii, the Obama family, or the Obama campaign. Photobucket is not known as a credible supplier of official vital records for any of the fifty states, and the liberties that other Photoshoppers took with the certificates confirms this.

As I understand it children of citizen U.S. military personnel born overseas are automatically considered “natural born” citizens, besides was not the Panama Canal zone U.S. territory (even though leased) at the time?

If every thing that is being said is true and he knowingly attempted to defraud the American public for the office of president...what would that be?

Grounds for impeachment. Assuming he's elected, of course.

Why? Look, just find out if he has a passport. If he does, then he has a birth certificate.

One can get a US Passport without meeting the requirements of the office of President. George Soros holds a US Passport, FCOL.

Yes, the impressed seal is lacking, but some hypothesized maybe that didn’t show up in the way the Obama people scanned it. I don’t think so, but inarguable is the following:

1. Both the Obama and Decosta documents show bleed through of the date stamping on the reverse side. They are nearly in the same position.

2. The Decosta document shows a bleed through of the signature block on the reverse side.

3. The Obama document shows no signature block bleed through, ie, it does not exist.

Therefore, the document is not properly authorized, and probably doesn’t have the impression either. No forger is going to forge only the date stamping but not the more important signature block. The document probably was created by someone in the Dept. of Health but avoided regular processes on behalf of the Obama campaign.

Outside chance—the department was so overcome with Obamamessiahism that they lost all reason in handling the request and rushed it to the Messiah forgetting usual procedures.

There are other possibilities. They may list his religion, he may have had a different birth name, his parents may not have been married, etc

I think it's gone beyond that. Things have reached a point where this BC thing is becoming the issue: what's he hiding, what's it say, where wouldn't he release it, why haven't..., why aren't..., what's with... etc.

Unless this BC turns out to be as pure as mother's-milk there's going to be ^%*## to pay. B/c then comes to question: "If this is legit, why did he take so long to release it?"

Why is the certificate # blacked out?

That raises the question of exactly what the certificate number is. Is it unique to the birth, so that multiple requests for the certificate from the Vital Records office would all have the same number? Or is it indeed a unique number associated with the individual copy of the document, so that multiple requests for an individual's certificate would have different numbers?

If it's the latter, then I can see why it's redacted. The state's system probably keeps a log linking certificate numbers to certificate requests, date/time printed, etc. This copy of the certificate lacks the embossed official authenticating stamp. It may be that it is genuine but was produced without proper authorization by someone working for the state of Hawaii. That someone would not want to be identified by having the number looked up in the log.

I wonder if the state still has the original paper copy of the certificate. Or did they just enter all the certificate data into a database and recycle the paper? Once upon a time, if you requested your birth certificate, you got a bad photostat of the original paper, signed and sealed as an authentic copy by the registrar. It seems Hawaii has replaced the photostat system with a database and a certificate printing app.

I’m lost again. How do we know he was born in the US if this document turns out to be a forgery?

I'm a bit confused myself. What evidence is there that Obama wasn't born in the U.S.? That's the crux of the matter. Unless someone can show that Obama wasn't born in the U.S., then arguing over whether this is an offical, certified picture of his birth certificate is pointless. If he was born here, then he's a natural born U.S. citizen. If he wasn't born here, then where was he born and what's the evidence supporting that?

Never mind answering my previous question to you. As I read further down in the posts the answer became evident.

Thanks anyway.

By your argument, anyone could adopt an identity, say they’re a natural born citizen, but have lost their papers.

That’s absurd.

If the guy has a passport, he has an official birth certificate.

The most interesting point I’ve read is that his mother, Ann Dunham, took him to visit her high school friends in Mercer Island, Washington, when he was less than a month old. Honolulu to Washington state is a mighty long trip for a teenage mother with a newborn in the era before disposable diapers. ;-)

There’s no evidence of where his mother was living while pregnant. The father was living on campus in Honolulu. If the parents were married, it was a bigamous relationship for him, since he already had a wife and children in Africa.

Since Ann’s parents disapproved of the relationship, it’s entirely possible that she was “sent away” for the final months of the pregnancy.

She may well have given birth in Canada. Are there relatives there who would take a pregnant teenager in? That would explain the visit to Mercer Island.

Let’s assume that the birth certificate is a proven fake and Barrack is forced out of the race. Who would the dimoCRAKTICs put up to challenge McCain? Would hitlery become the nominee? That’s a scary thought. Seems that if that came about, the dims would/will surely lose in November. We could all hope so.

It sounds to me like these questions need to be answered by Obama, not us. McCain is proving his citizenship in court. The same should hold true for Obama.

The campaign has released an unofficial copy of his birth certificate. Where did they get it?

This is Rathergate all over.

...But he is careful to choose somebody who is also not a natural born citizen, knowing that the Congress will remove the requirement ...

That would require a constitutional amendment, ratified by 38 states, not just an Act of Congress.

If the Supreme Court were somehow to acquiesce to a non-natural-born president without a properly-ratified amendment, we would be well past the Awkward Phase.

Now the interesting question, why did he need a copy which was issued after Nov. 2001?

Good question, and my question is why hasn't someone done some snooping re: the hospital where he was born. I know his medical records are private, but are the hospital's in re: to births and deaths that took place on the premises?

Yeah, just like he has a copy of his original birth certificate to share?

Does he have a passport? If so, then as a natural born U.S. citizen he either had to provide a birth certificate or a report of birth abroad from a U.S. counsulate. If he is a naturalized citizen then he had to provide a naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship. Find out what he provided to get his passport and your question is answered.
