McCain in a landslide? Could be

Jack Kelly

SEN. Barack Obama has the lead for the time being. But three signposts point the way to a McCain landslide in November, in the unlikely event the Arizona senator has the wit to heed them.

What figures to be by far the most important issue this fall is the skyrocketing price of energy and its deleterious effect on the broader economy and national security.

Now that Sen. John McCain has flip-flopped on drilling off our coasts, there is a substantial difference between him and Mr. Obama on the issue. Mr. McCain also supports building more nuclear power plants, which Mr. Obama opposes.

Opinion polls indicate a large majority supports drilling for oil off our coasts and in Alaska. That majority is likely to expand and harden as gas prices rise this summer. But Mr. McCain can't fully capitalize politically on this change in public attitude unless he completes his flip-flop and consents to drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge........

“If he (McCain) could use border security and immigration, as well as energy as a wedge issue against obama, it would be all over but the crying.”

What’s so frustrating is that Republicans probably should have lost this year. But now that so much, as you point out, has turned in our favor, we have exactly the wrong candidate to take full advantage of it.

But maybe McCain can get his ego under enough control to flip-flop some more and take advantage of more of the opportunities served up on a silver platter by Obama, energy costs, and, why bother mentioning immigration.

It’s still hard to believe McCain is the candidate, after winning less than 40% of the vote thru Super Tuesday. He’s definitely self-righteous and pigheaded enough to blow all these golden opportunities.

I would prefer to recover from a McCain landslide,
than try to have to survive an Obama mandate.

I read somewhere quote “ I would rather have a third rate fireman than a first rate arsonist”.

Obama is a lying, plagiarizing, flipflopping, elitist, arrogant, leftwing socialist with poor judgment and radical extremist friends and associates, including the racist pastor Rev Wright, who he called his friend and mentor for 20 years. Obama will hurt our economy with his higher taxes, hurt our culture with pro-abortion extremism and racial grievance politics, and get Americans killed with his naive and weak foreign policy.

It is a shocking risk to this country that Obama isnt *already * 20 points behind. He will be a truly awful president.

“I’ve always though McLame would win this thing. I pay no attention to polls, but my gut feeling”

The problem is that gut feelings dont translate well out to the communities we dont intersect. I am sure western Travis will be obama-free. But what about downtown Austin?
And no, the media is *NOT* sharing much bad about Obama. Media studies show 70% positive for Obama, and as usual only about 20% positive on Republicans.

Here’s a test. Send this to 10 liberal friends and see what they do with it:

Obama is a lying, plagiarizing, flipflopping, elitist, arrogant, leftwing socialist with poor judgment and radical extremist friends and associates, including the racist pastor Rev Wright, who he called his friend and mentor for 20 years. Obama will hurt our economy with his higher taxes, hurt our culture with pro-abortion extremism and racial grievance politics, and get Americans killed with his naive and weak foreign policy.

will their heads explode? ... the reaction will tell you if Obama will win or not.

I noticed that in the latest AOL poll (with close to 180,000 nationwide votes) McCain is thumping the messiah:

http://news.aol.com/political-machine/straw-poll

I just can’t figure how any of the polls that show BHO leading by as much as 15 points are even close to being accurate. I highly suspect heavily weighted calls to registered Dems or outright manipulation to get the results they are looking for.

“but it will take us years to recover from a landslide. “

There will be NO RECOVERY from Obama’s election.

Did we ever ‘recover’ from FDR? LBJ? Clinton? Nope!

Obama is a lying, plagiarizing, flipflopping, elitist, arrogant, leftwing socialist with poor judgment and radical extremist friends and associates, including the racist pastor Rev Wright, who he called his friend and mentor for 20 years. “I’m pretty sure we will survive Mccain. If he manages to
get spending under control and reduces the size of Gov’t ,
nominates a good judge(s) to the supreme court and finishes the job in Iraq succesfully , he’ll be a freakin hero.”

Dittos on this.

And a bonus if he decides up front to be a one termer *AND* nominates a conservative VP.

I really don't care much for polls, like you I find them highly suspect and agenda driven.

I do check Rasmussen from time to time and this is his take today....

Uh huh. It is utterly discouraging that a Republican has to "flip-flop" on these issues in the first place.

But a McCain landslide will be very bad for the GOP.

Why?

Just my opinion but if McCain wins in a landslide so does the conservative side of the party.

John Kerry and Al Gore showed that a Republican nominee can not win without the 30 million conservatives that make up the party's base voter.

Lots riding on this, an election that will affect America for 20 to 50 years down the line and may mean the difference in how all of us live our daily lives.

We conservatives have already shown that by drilling for oil McCain can be induced to change his mind.

The oil issue was a major SNAFU for the Democrats and it's one they can not flip and flop out of like a Kerry or Gore.

Nancy Pelosie, Howard Dean, Hairy Reid and Obama have come off looking like idiots trying to sell that garbage about a tax increase lowering gas prices.
LOL.......

The mosquito's in Alaska are so big that when I was there we called them B-29’s...err that was a long time ago.

There isn't nothing in Anwar to really look at.

At 70 below it is hard to tell if it is pristine or not.

I believe that is the the best way I've ever heard that put, and I thank you.

McCain winning at all in a toxic environment for the GOP would be lucky.

Now that Sen. John McCain has flip-flopped on drilling off our coasts$4 a gallon would change anyone's opinion on drilling.

Except the DIMS, of course. They have been and will continue to be on the wrong side of this issue.

Alternative fuels, biofuels are good for the future, but the question that should be asked and hasn't is this....."What are you going to do about tomorrow?"

McCain’s problems: trouble conservatives
barack mcgovern’s problems:
A) won’t get enough Jewish votes
B) won’t get enough Hispanic votes
C) won’t break 22% of White male vote
D) won’t win White women by nearly enough
E) won’t break 45% of genuine Catholics
F) There are enough Blacks or clearisil commandos in America to overcome his problems
Any questions?

...but it will take us years to recover from a landslide.

The only thing that will prevent this is for everyone to get out there in their congressional primaries and vote for the MOST conservative candidate. There needs to be a few incumbents out on their cans in the primaries to get this message across. I've got Saxby (Amnesty) Chambliss in my sights.
