WASHINGTON, June 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- American Solutions for Winning the Future announced today that one million Americans have signed the "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" petition urging Congress to immediately start drilling for American oil to lower gas prices.
The petition reads:
"We, therefore, the undersigned citizens of the United States, petition the U.S. Congress to act immediately to lower gasoline prices (and diesel and other fuel prices) by authorizing the exploration of proven energy reserves to reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources from unstable countries."

Suppose each signer put a couple bucks in an escrow account? Allow drilling and you get the money in escrow, don’t, and it reverts to the petitioners.
Probably illegal as all get-out, but with that kind of money on the table, I bet the laws could be changed on a voice vote on any given day congress is in session.

Well, it wouldn't hurt those fine,patriotic folks {God Bless 'em} to sign the petition, too.
This is a great plan and I appreciate Newt for doing it - but I think it’s going to take more than this. I think that folks like us - everyday Americans - are going to need to *talk* to their neighbors, family and friends - to really communicate and educate others about this issue. I really think it’s going to take us reaching out (in a respectful way) beyond our normal comfort zone to help others understand why we have such high gas prices and what can be done to lower them.

We signed the petition, but then I heard that on-line petetions do not have any “pull” when presented to Congress. Did I hear right? Anyone?
