A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 29% of voters favor nationalizing the oil industry. Just 47% are opposed and 24% are not sure.
The survey found that a plurality of Democrats (37%) believe the oil industry should be nationalized. Just 32% of voters in Barack Obama’s party disagree with that approach. Republicans oppose nationalizing the oil industry by a 66% to 16% margin. Unaffiliated voters are opposed by a 47% to 33% margin.
Nationalization is the process by which the government assumes complete control of a private industry and its assets. It has been a common practice in totalitarian dictatorships, but as recently as 2001 following the 9/11 attacks, the U.S. government nationalized the private airport security industry and moved it under the Transportation Security Administration.

Government already controls the industry through massive regulation. Why bother with the headache of asset ownership?

This is scary. But what is scarier is not so much this poll, but the reason for the results of the poll. America is getting dumber and dumber by the day. Add to the mix 12 million illegals granted amnesty and voting and we’ll no longer have an educated majority voting and shaping this country.
That’s because “most Americans” are ignorant of economics and are too preoccupied to comprehend any policy or solution that doesn’t fit on a bumpersticker.
The elitists would love to strangle American industry and the carbon culture. They see people as the enemy of the earth. They see prosperity, freedom, and America, as the enemy of the world.
Lack of intellectual rigor in the educational system eventually results in a generation unable to examine issues logically.

The irony is that there really isn’t much to nationalize that is left in the US. Most of what the oil companies own in the US is nonproductive. The vast bulk of the oil in the US is owned by the federal government.
Federal Oil and Gas Corporation - FOGCO! When that happens, I throw my allegiance to OPEC!
Republicans oppose nationalizing the oil industry by a 66% ................................. Republicans probably have more invested in Oil Company stocks than Democrats. Democrat Union Workers don’t realize that their pension funds are tied into the oil stocks.
