When Bad Things Happen To The Media
Bob Parks: Blaack & Right ^ | 6/13/08 | Bob Parks

I know this may come off as callous and insensitive to some, but it has to be said.

While I have no animus against Tim Russert, I am again in amazement how thoroughly the news world has been turned on its head because of the death of one journalist. One of them.

I wouldn’t doubt this insane election zapped him.

Zapping me, too.

"I wouldn’t doubt this insane election zapped him."

Maybe. But he just had health issues that caught up with him is my guess.

I assume there was film of his death involved here. I can understand that as I've seen too much of that first hand.

Yeah, the game was being broadcast on ABC, I believe.

Catch you later on this. I'm bugging out as I'm listning to Ted Nugent on the headphones.

If anything, it shows just how much those who disseminate information think of themselves. They consider themselves better and more important than us.

Yep. They sure do.

So Tim has gone to his eternal home, it just reminds me that you had better live your life like today was your last day. You have no guarantees, and you don’t know the day or time. I am sure the Network has some blabbermouth to drag out of the news closet dust off and sit in front of the teleprompter. But Tim, is history, get over it..

As far as "prayers up" or "Praying for his family".... that's a nice sentiment, I guess. If it makes you feel good or are trying to show lurkers that we're just a praying bunch of "good guys".... go for it.

Prayer is efficacious. Feeling good is not.

I had an enlarged heart from too much booze also. I had a heart attack at age 28 because of it. I quit drinking in 1989. No problems since.

FReeper “American In Tokyo” had quite a descriptive firsthand post of the quake. Said that the authorities issued a warning a full two minutes before it struck.

From here:

"The vibration of an earthquake is essentially a form of sound wave. The fastest waves from an earthquake, the P-waves, travel at 3-5 miles/s (5-7km/sec). The slower S-waves travel at about 2-3 miles per second. Clearly much faster than sound through air. The fact that these vibrations travel at different speeds depending on what they are travelling through has allowed us to map the interior of the earth by noting the time of arrival of the same earthquake vibration at seismographs located all over the planet and comparing the data."

The earthquake was 240 miles from Tokyo. If the waves traveled 2 miles/sec, then it would take 120 seconds for them to reach Tokyo, hence the opportunity for a warning.

Agree. It seems the Mr. Russert was a fine man but his passing is being recognized in a manner which is way out of proportion.

I think I can sum up the concern of media is due to the fact that Tim Russert actually is irreplaceable by anyone else at the network. I can't think of a reason to consider them viable without Tim Russert...

Above mentioned Drat Mudge was invited to her heiney’s final goodbye to her ‘troops’.

There is more, or less, to this man than meets the eye.

The death of anyone is a tragedy to someone somewhere. But Russert’s death along with the pain it has brought his family pales in comparison to what the flood victims and recent earthquake victims have gone through. In fact outside his family and immediate circle of friends the passing of Tim Russert is as insignificant (or as significant) as the passing of your neighbor 2 blocks down and 1 block over.

People in the way of the Klinton’s have a way of suffering.

Consider the recent diagnosis of Teddy and now this death of Tim.

Enlarged heart (cardiomegaly) is not a disease but a sign of an underlying problem. It can have many causes, including:

High blood pressure
Heart valve disorders
Weakness of the heart muscle (cardiomyopathy)
Severe anemia
Thyroid disorders
Excessive iron in the body (hemochromatosis)
Abnormal protein buildup in an organ (amyloidosis)

In as much as probably overwork had an effect on him I would agree that this election cycle probably did it for him.
