John McCain said Friday that the Supreme Court ruling on Guantanamo Bay detainees is one of the worst decisions in the history of this country. The presumptive GOP nominee said the decision, a 5-4 ruling Thursday that determined Guantanamo detainees have the right to seek release in civilian courts, would lead to a wave of frivolous challenges. We are now going to have the courts flooded with so-called
habeas corpus suits against the government, whether it be about the diet, whether it be about the reading material. And we are going to be bollixed up in a way that is terribly unfortunate because we need to go ahead and adjudicate these cases, he said at a town hall meeting in New Jersey. McCain said he has worked hard to ensure the U.S. military does not torture prisoners but that the detainees at Guantanamo are still enemy combatants. These are people who are not citizens. They do not and never have been given the rights that citizens in this country have, he said. Now, my friends, there are some bad people down there. There are some bad people. Barack Obama released a statement Thursday saying the Supreme Court decision ensures that we can protect our nation and bring terrorists to justice while also protecting our core values. The Courts decision is a rejection of the Bush administrations attempt to create a legal black hole at Guantanamo - yet another failed policy supported by John McCain, he said. This is an important step toward re-establishing our credibility as a nation committed to the rule of law and rejecting a false choice between fighting terrorism and respecting habeas corpus.

This was the last thing I expected to read in regards to McCain. I must say I am pleasantly surprised...
Not to mention the fact that many of the attorneys will pass messages back and forth between the captives and their terrorist pals.
He’s right.
It should have been a ship in the middle of the ocean. The ship shouldn’t even be registered in the US.
Terrorists arrive, are rigorously interrogated, and depart through the garbage chute. When the war is over, evacuate the crew and scuttle the ship.
McCain has always wanted the Gitmo prisoners cases processed ASAP and then Gitmo closed ASAP.
Cancel the war on terror, we lost.
McCain has always wanted the Gitmo prisoners cases processed ASAP and then Gitmo closed ASAP. McCain's beef with Gitmo was that the processing of the cases has been stalled and going nowhere.
I have never said a nice thing about Obama - he is just as bad as McCain. McCain however has the potential to totally destroy what is left of the conservatives and constitution in our society. So you goin to the LaRaza convention to see your hero?
It seems quite obvious to me that DU has infiltrated FR with McCain supporters. Only explanation I can think of.
I am certain the vast majority of the VOTING public sees this ruling as antithema to their existential aspirations.
I was not surprised at all. McCain has always cared about the safety of the country.
I knew that the McCain haters would be unwilling and incapable of believing and understanding this.
Based on the Military Extraterritorial Jurisdiction Act, you are correct.

Our troops are now FOREVER chargeable as civilians if some prosecutor doesn’t like any of their actions as soldiers.
Had John Kerry become president, he could have charged Petraeus for deaths on the battlefield of ENEMY combatants IF he simply disagreed with planning or decision-making.
It’s a terrible time to be a combat soldier.
A good time to be a terrorist, though. You get 4 squares, reading material, entertainment, your own personal lawyer, and now your own personal judge.
We are insane.
The ultimate question is this. How long does it take for the Democrat Socialist Leftist goals for this nation to be achieved, when our side contiues to win elections and implement 25-40% of their goals each term?
If we won’t take a stand, we stand for nothing. And this election makes that more clear than ever before. We are NOT moving to the right in this nation. Democrat and RINO administrations will never achieve this.
So what do we do? Vote in a new RINO arguably far worse than the last?
Not no, but hell fricken no! We either take a stand and demand the Republican party get back to basics, or we continue to be a part of the problem, a problem that is destroying our nation.
It sure will. By still having GTMO open, we are now stuck with these detaineees with "Constitutional rights".
When you evaluate the value of a military asset, you must do so dispassionately. So, what purpose did GTMO serve?
GTMO allowed detainees to be in the glare of the liberal media that painted them as poor little victims. Although captured, the detainees were force multiplier for America's enemies by helping turn public opinion against the entire war effort.
GTMO was doing much more harm than good to the war effort.
Today, truck-loads of terrorists are being captured in Iraq but they are not turning up at GTMO.
Where are they being kept?
Who knows exactly where but, what is certain, is that they are not being kept in a three ring media circus that furthers the enemy's propaganda war.
The anti-McCain crowd has answers for everything.
In truth, we will never recover. Once people have new entitlements and have entered the programs and are benefitting materially from them, they will never want to go back.
