Republicans and conservatives are rallying behind Sen. John McCain's White House bid, but not because they are so enamored with him or his agenda. Instead, their loyalty is based on their perception that Illinois Sen. Barack Obama as president, particularly with large Democratic majorities in both chambers of Congress, would be utterly disastrous.
Regardless of whether you agree with them about the results of a Democratic presidential victory later this year, a McCain victory might produce its own series of domino-like events that ultimately might hurt the Grand Old Party.
...I don't necessarily agree with Stewart that a McCain victory in November would lead to the "eradication" of the GOP, but it's easy to see how a McCain presidency could end up being a nightmare for Republicans.
In the worst-case scenario, a McCain victory in November could likely lead to a Republican bloodletting that would tear apart the GOP well before 2012, contribute to another good Democratic election in 2010 and hand Democrats such a strong advantage during redistricting that Republicans wouldn't be able to recover for years.

I'm voting McCain.
It would be interesting to see a poll of these four candidates:
1. Barack Obama
2. Hillary Clinton
3. John McCain
4. George W. Bush
Don't know about you but, right now, a third Bush term would look pretty good.

The idea is to get it changed. With McCain we perhaps have a chance. With Obama there is no chance.
How old is Kennedy now? I'm concerned with a Democrat replacing that guy. Kennedy is a moderate and I think he would rather be replaced by a Republican President. In a way, I wish he retired before 2006.
It's a gamble at this point. With Obama we know exactly what we'll get. With McCain their is a chance.

There’s no evidence McCain will appoint a Conservative replacement. Indeed, in the interests of “bipartisanship” and comity and citing the need for “balance”, he will likely pick another Stevens liberal parasite as a replacement. It’s worth noting that Republicans have chosen some of the worst activist liberals in the 20th century for the courts. Jimmy Carter didn’t appoint Stevens, Jerry Ford did (and Ford, even up to his death KNOWING how leftist Stevens was, NEVER regretted his appointment). Ike appointed the ultimate judicial scum of the 20th century, Earl Warren.
Conversely, JFK appointed Byron “Whizzer” White, who turned out to be a fairly model justice and was not a leftist. Another potential Dem appointee that almost ended up on the Supremes was former Virgin Islands Governor William H. Hastie. Hastie was a Black Conservative who was bitterly opposed by both Warren and racist Dems like MS’s Sen. James Eastland. Instead, the ultraleft imbecile Thurgood Marshall became the 1st Black on the court.
Among conservatives, certainly, three of those people in your proposed poll wouldn’t break single digits.
The problem is that there’s too many Democrats in the Senate now. So if McCain gets elected, a conservative would just get BORKED in the Senate. So we have to slip in a moderate like Souter and hope that doesn’t backfire.

I do understand how you feel. I was a Fred supporter, then Romney supporter. Just recently heard Romney on two different radio programs and he is against closing Getmo and the court decision, against Cap & Trade, against amnesty, and FOR drilling here and now in America. He is still out helping to elect McCain because Obama should not be anyway near the White House due to the damage he would cause! How I wish McCain would pick Romney for VP, but doubt that will happen since Romney is a conservative and McCain isn’t! My choice is still clear. I will hold my nose with both hands and vote for McCain only because he would do less damage than Obama and we would have a good chance to elect a conservative in four years. If Obama is elected he would be in for eight years and would make sure liberals woud be in charge for years to come. I am sure he would put Hillary on the SC!

Actually at one point Ruch was saying that it would be better for Obama to win or at least for McCain not to win.
But he has recently changed to defeating Obama and getting a win for the republicans.

If McCain didn’t vote to affirm the nomination of each judge who took the majority opinion yesterday, he voted to affirm all but one or two of them. And once again, I find another person who is convinced he is solid on judges. Why? What possible basis do you have for thinking he is?
The disconnect with reality that I am seeing this year is greater than it has ever been. People talk of the ozone hole expanding, but I think the fuzzy logic expansion this year is what needs to be addressed.
Zombie on party members, convince yourselves that John is the savior of the ages if you will. I’m not buying it.
