Daily Kos posts copy of Obama's birth certification
Hot Air ^ | 6/12/2008 | Allahpundit

Posted on 06/12/2008 3:10:54 PM PDT by Oyarsa

No word of how he got it-Team Barry isn't actually leaking to dKos, is it?-and naturally he misunderstands Jim Geraghty's point about Obama's place of birth, which would have been relevant not with respect to his "Americanness" but whether he was constitutionally qualified to run as a natural-born citizen. But here it is.

Update: Not that it matters for purposes of addressing Geraghty's concerns, but Flip notes that the posted document is a certification of birth, which is slightly different from a birth certificate.

“AFRICAN” is not a race. It’s not even a nationality.

Africa is a continent, and it has many races and many nations.

Bogus document by someone that doesn’t know better.

When you ask for a birth certificate they are computer generated...

Not in my hometown. Just got an embossed, handwritten one last year. By mail, no less.

Anyone else notice this? When you flip the document horizontally...

The date that is circled. Looks like a JUN 6 2007? What's that about? Was this supposed to be an original birth certificate or a recent copy? Before I get to "conspiracy theory" here, I'll just assume it's something I don't understand.

What year were you born? African is not a race and I doubt that it would have been used as such in 1961. I don’t believe that the term, African American was yet in use. I believe the term in 1961 would have been, “Negro”. Of course, they could have re-issued altered birth certificates to eliminate the term, Negro.

"There is NO WAY this is real!"

Yes it is real. It is a CERTIFIED copy the only thing that is really legal.

They do not use Birth Certificates that hospitals used to issue.

If you apply for SS you better have a CERTIFIED copy.

Dear Records Bureau,

I am requesting a letter of Verification that Birth Certificate 6666666 was issued in the name of Barry Osama and that (insert of info shown on this phony here)

Letters of Verification

Letters of verification may be issued in lieu of certified copies (HRS §338-14.3). This document verifies the existence of a birth/death/marriage/divorce certificate on file with the Department of Health and any other information that the applicant provides to be verified relating to the vital event. (For example, that a certain named individual was born on a certain date at a certain place.) The verification process will not, however, disclose information about the vital event contained within the certificate that is unknown to and not provided by the applicant in the request.

Letters of verification are requested in similar fashion and using the same request forms as for certified copies.

The fee for a letter of verification is $5 per letter.

What you should mean, since you have no way of verifying this yourself, is that it appears to be real, given the "certified". But anything can be posted online that looks real. Simply having "certified" doesn't actually make it so.

"This is not an original"

The birth certificates issued by the hospital at the time of birth are not official. You have to have a CERTIFIED copy to be legal. If you ever want to get SS you have to apply for the CERTIFIED copy

Wow! Did you notice that “Paul is dead” can be read when that certificate is viewed backwards?

This copy is not certified. There is no official certification or notary on it. This appears more like the Bush guard docs than an official birth certificate, which this is not.

Love to see what a Birth Certificate from 1961 vintage looks like. Gettting to see one would end speculation as to what is on Obama’s certificate.

This web site was interesting. http://www.birthcertificatesusa.com/state/brusa_hawaii.html

OF HAWAII
Obtain certified Birth Certificates from the State of Hawaii. Order online! Click HERE to order.

BirthCertificatesUSA can obtain a copy of a birth certificate, or confirm the birth of an individual in the state of Hawaii, our researchers conduct a search of the birth records in the county, parish or borough where the Birth Certificate was issued. We obtain an original copy of the birth certificates that can be used for travel in Mexico and Canada, for driving license and passport applications. We can obtain Birth Certificates for ALMOST every state in the US, see the list on the right and click for information on the state that you are interested in.

Costs can and do vary! The price starts at $34.00 for each Hawaii Birth Certificate, which includes one certified copy of the Birth Certificate. The state can and does change its prices without any warning. We try to keep these web pages up to date, but the actual and most current price will be shown on the order page when you order online. To check the most current price, click HERE. There is a minimum $15.00 charge for each additional certified copy ordered at the same time. If you would like to rush your request then there will be an additional charge of $25.00.

Turnaround Times for Hawaii are approximately 7 to 10 working days. We do our best to expedite every application, BUT we do not own these records, and we are dependant on the records repositories to supply these birth records. If you need these records in a hurry, call our offices at 1.800.315.7678 and let us check to make sure that we can meet your deadline!

Record Availability - records are available from 1853 to present. Records prior to 1853 may be available, however they have to be recovered from archive and the turnaround time may be significantly longer.

A signed release and a picture ID may be required to obtain a copy of the Birth Certificate. Hawaii states that Birth Certificates can ONLY be made available to the following individuals:
Person Named on the Certificate

Mother/Father (or Legal Guardian)

Legal Representative of an Authorized Person

Individuals with a legitimate and legal reason to
search for genealogical purposes

Birth Certificates MAY also be released to the following, IF we are provided with the documentation proving one of the relationships specified below:

Husband/Wife of Person Named on Certificate

Son/Daughter of Person Named on Certificate

Sister/Brother of Person Named on Certificate

If you fall into one of the three relationship categories listed above, then please CALL US at 1.800.315.7678 before making your order so that we can make sure that we meet the state documentation requirements. Otherwise your order may be delayed while we contact you for the additional information.

Delivery Time: Results are sent to you either by regular US Postal Service mail. We are able to fulfill rush orders using an express carrier such as FedEx, but rush orders can ONLY be delivered to a street address, not to a PO Box or military address. We cannot guarantee turnaround time as we are dependent on the state getting back to us in a timely fashion, and this can vary widely with the load that the records office is experiencing. County offices have limited personnel and are often swamped with paper work.
Order Here >>

The state of Hawaii has a number of specific requirements. You MUST provide the following or we will be unable to process your request:

Full name of person at birth
Date of birth
County (or city) of birth
Full maiden name of mother

Your name
Your relationship to the person whose certificate you are requesting
Your reason for searching for this Document (please select one reason from the dropdown box provided)
Any additional information that you think is pertinent

Yes it is real. It is a CERTIFIED copy

It seems rather odd that the one piece of information that would verify that has been removed.

Not that it matters for purposes of addressing Geraghty's concerns, but Flip notes that the posted document is a certification of birth, which is slightly different from a birth certificate.

How? I looked at the three documents for my family. Mine says "Certificate of Birth". My wife's says "Certificate of Live Birth", which I guess means that mine could be a certificate of dead birth. My daughter's says "Certificate of Live Birth" as well, and both her's and mine were issued by the same state, Illinois, though decades apart. Do none of those qualify as birth certificates?

I would say that in this Hot Air is full of hot air.

Kos did not have to have Obama’s permission to obtain this...all they needed was his, his mother and father’s full names and his birth date. That information is out there everywhere for the taking.
