No word of how he got it-Team Barry isn't actually leaking to dKos, is it?-and naturally he misunderstands Jim Geraghty's point about Obama's place of birth, which would have been relevant not with respect to his "Americanness" but whether he was constitutionally qualified to run as a natural-born citizen. But here it is.
Update: Not that it matters for purposes of addressing Geraghty's concerns, but Flip notes that the posted document is a certification of birth, which is slightly different from a birth certificate.

Why dinn’t Obama’s campaign offically release it? Why is there no stamped seal on it? I don’t know if there is anything here, but there are better ways to put out fires than secretly slipping stuff to the Daily Kooks.

This is not an original. Look at the paper stock description in the lower left. Of course, it could be a state issued one that is legitimate but generated more recently.

I notice that the revision date of the document (lower left hand corner) is 11/01. Therefore, this is not an original, but just some information printed on what is the current form. Who knows?

The fact that appears to be stamped “JUN 6 2007” on the reverse does not help matters any.
The doc code in the lower left implies that this format is from 11/2001. It could still be a legit birth certificate. Hawaii may have racial indicators because of special laws regarding the native people there.
NOTE: A certified birth certificate has a registrar's raised, embossed, impressed or multicolored seal, registrar’s signature, and the date the certificate was filed with the registrar's office, which must be within 1 year of your birth. Please note that some short (abstract) versions of birth certificates may not be acceptable for passport purposes.
This certificate would not be acceptable to get a passport.
It doesn't have to be, as they do not provide originals anymore. But it is not a certified one, as it should be. If Obama applied for a passport with this, it would be rejected.
The only plausible reason for the certificate number being BLACKED OUT is that this is a photoshop of someone else’s certificate, and of course that PERP doesn’t want their number immortalized on the Internet. Plus it would make it easy to request a verfication letter of the info on that number.
Is African a race? How would a black person be identified in 1961? It seems to me that if racial identification was made, it would say Negro.
I don’t get the point of posting his birth certificate, anyway. It raises more questions than it answers. My guess is that the left is attempting to stir up controversy on the right, over Obama’s Muslim heritage, much like they are trying to gin up the controversy over Michelle Obama’s “Whitey” remark. It’s best not to fall for it, other than to question why and the reasons for all the obfuscations. The lies about his Muslim heritage are much more important than the fact, itself. Obama’s mother was an agnostic, at best and chances are that Obama is also an agnostic, whose only religious beliefs are political in nature.
And remember when there was a break-in at the State Department where it turned out to have been members of Obama's staff? Makes you wonder... (makes me wonder, anyway).

When you ask for a birth certificate they are computer generated. I haven’t seen my original in a very long time.When I needed one for a passport I went to NYC Dept of Health paid a fee and had one generated in front of me. All the clerk did was apply the seal since the cert was to be used for a passport. There’s nothing unusual about this birth cert except the person it names. It is unusual for a Marxist to be the candidate of a major party for POTUS.
I totally agree. Race shouldn't be on this document. This document was altered: there should be a date issued to go along with the date filed as well.
