The question is at the bottom of the page, the effect on Conservatism is a tough call unless McCain changes the type of politician he's been over the last decade or more.
Conservatives would probably unite if Obama is President but Obama will use typical divide a conquer strategies against the leadership of the opposition to say and the media will broadcast the message loud and clear. If you support my oppositions position you are radical, right wing, redneck, racist. Otherwise known as the 4 R's of the Republican Party.
You haven’t been paying attention!
True dat.
It's counter-intuitive to most people, but McCain will not generate enough opposition to stop his liberal tendencies. Obama, on the other hand, will generate an incredible amount of opposition, and fire up the right base like we haven't seen in our lifetimes.
Like I said, it's a tough sell, but it also happens to be true.
Personally, I like the third option, which is to mount an overwhelming national campaign to recall McCain, and replace him with a candidate that will galvanize our side and beat the Marxist.
Yes, a McCain win could further marginalize conservatism in the GOP, but at least conservatives would have 4 long years to figure out what they have to do to wrest control back at the top of the party.
I'm really wondering if a true conservative could win this election. I don't like saying that because I'm a conservative myself, but the manic Bush hatred in this country is so great this election cycle thanks to 8 straight years of media manipulation, and the unwillingness of Bush to stand up for himself and the things that the party is supposed to represent, that I think any "R" candidate that wasn't close to the middle, wouldn't have stood a chance this year, really. McCain can win because he can appeal to disaffected Hillary voters and moderates who are scared, for good reason, of Obama. I don't think someone to the right of Bush, who isn't very far right to begin with, or liked, could do the same. Not this year, anyway.
And, this might sound ridiculous to a lot of people, but this is obviously going to be McCain's last stand for high political office. If he wins, will he even compete for a 2nd term? He may be going into this election with the intention of only completing one term. Yes, the guy has been a middle of the roader all his life, but how much of that has been for political expediency to appeal to the constituents of his state? If his intent is to only stay in office for 1 term from the very beginning, there's always the slight chance that he governs farther to the right than anyone ever would have thought. What's he got to lose if he only intends to serve for 1 term? Not saying it's likely, but it has a better chance of happening than Obama suddenly turning to the right. lol. I think even just 4 years of Obama would be a disaster. There's the very real possibility that with him in office, life as we know it, could end, making it impossible to ever recover the viability of conservatism. Hold your nose, close your eyes, and put the welfare of the country before our ideology. Most of us aren't going to be happy doing that, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do, and we don't gotta have a marxist like Obama in the White House. Allowing that to happen would set a dangerous precedent, imo, not to mention any one of many other possible immediate nightmares put into effect by Obama over the 1st 4 years that would never happen with McCain, no matter how centrist anyone thinks he is.
This quote is what Barack Obama and his supporters would be saying. Not Republicans or Conservatives.
Under McCain Conservatism is completely neutered.
I absolutly love your way of thinking.Prepare for the onslaught from the mcnutts crowd.
Agreed. They’re scum. I was covering the majority wishes of all of the contemporary parties, though. ;-)
The VAWA needs to be repealed. We need to stop trade that weakens our nation and builds enemy nations. The corporate-supported social programs (class war) against working class families need to be stopped. The corporate-supported false academia needs to be stopped. Real crimes (the imports and selling of mind-rotting drugs, adultery, promotions of homosexuality, thefts, gambling, prostitution, murder,...) need to be prosecuted. Organized crime needs to be prosecuted wherever it’s honestly reported.
I don’t like communism or fascism. This is America—not old Sicily, Russia or any of that filth between the two.
Best idea I’ve heard yet.
F### the Losertarians. They couldn’t beat Mickey Mouse in an election.
And we conservatives will just sit idly by and not even lift a finger to try and stop them right? When they try that nonsense it will be the wake call this country has needed for some time.By the way you didnt mention anything about their”trying” to take our guns from us.Now, do you really think they can pull that off?If so,you greatly underestimate those of us that will take up arms about the second amendment. Both democrat and republican.
50/50
Are you acquainted with nonpolitical politics in Czechoslovakia before the end of the communist Soviet Union (just before the new fascist “Federation”)? Our leadership will get respect after it pays the respect due to me and my kind.
Who would be worse for the country?
President John McCain
35% (304 votes)
President Barack Obama
65% (567 votes)
Total votes: 871
