Supreme Court meets to issue opinions, orders (Washington DC Gun Ban)
The Las Vegas Sun ^ | May 27, 2008 | AP

The Supreme Court is meeting to issue opinions and announce whether it has accepted any new cases.

Major cases still undecided include the rights of detainees at Guantanamo Bay, the ban on handguns in Washington, D.C., and whether people convicted of raping children can be given the death penalty.

The court's term ends in late June.

Rumor is the Solicitor General resigned because of what’s coming re: Heller.

Does that bode well or bode evil?

it may be that the court will say that it is up to local governments to set their own restrictions, but the federal government is prohibited from doing so...

much like the eminent domain issue...

i always hated the shouting fire argument for the restrictions on the first...

if people do not take responsibility and realize they are not in imminent danger from smoke or heat... then why restrict it...

yes the shouter should be allowed... call him a liar and hold him responsible for damages, but calmer minds would prevail...

Well....from what I’ve seen, he’ll be back....under a different name. So perhaps you’ll get your chance! :-)

I remember being a pre-teen and getting into "wars" with BB guns JUST like that one! It was a wonder nobody ever lost an eye. Mom would wonder how we got the amazing welts, but we wouldn't say. :-)

...must be a "guy thing", because I can't recall hearing of any girls doing supremely stupid things like this. :-)

We've had a standing rule for 25 years now (as long as we've been married) that there will be NO BB guns in the house! The kids have about everything else, but no BB guns. :-)

Excellent story.

The Obamao is much smarter then that, he will say something about “I applaud the ruling..but different areas should have different laws” etc etc.

Well. His whole issue was little more than “don’t legalize machineguns”.

Please, oh please, eliminate 922(o)...

That's why it was common for towns to have a central armory: not so the gov't would control those arms, but so people would have a safe place to store dangerous stuff.

Exactly! I'm not concerned about Larry having the 4.2" mortar, unless he uses it to "prep" the area he's going to hunt deer in! Shredded venison? Anyway, I have many friends whose ClassIII items are tons o' fun. I know they're not up to something nefarious. Talking belt fed AND the occasional suppressor that goes on the target 22 for squirrels and such without disturbing the neighbors or, for that matter, the wife cooking dinner.

>Personal firearms -are- going to be useful for self-protection and order when a Sichuan style earthquake happens.

Personal firearms -are- going to be useful when, not if, the coming clash/insurrection with La Raza rolls over much of this country.
Then the unarmed are going to die.

Not quite right about Randy Weaver....

The feds approached Mr. Weaver and wanted him to infiltrate, and inform on, the Aryan Nations church in northern Idaho. Randy declined. Weaver was approached again at an Aryan Nations rally by an undercover ATF agent who expressed a desire to buy sawed off shotguns. Weaver sold the agent shotguns....full-length shotguns, according to Weaver....and he told the agent to shorten them himself. Another version of this story stated that Weaver shortened the shotguns himself, in front of the undercover ATF agent, to the length he requested, and the shotguns were only slightly shorter than legally permitted....I think it was a quarter of an inch.

ATF agents then approached Weaver again, accusing him of selling illegal weapons, and offered to drop all charges if he would spy on the Aryan Nations on behalf of the feds. Randy again refused.

Randy was arrested, and later served with court papers. He didn’t “ignore a federal court order to appear”......the court papers had the wrong date for his court appearance! When Randy didn’t appear, a bench warrant was issued, a marshal went to Randy’s property to serve it, and a series of events led to a bloody siege, including Randy’s wife being shot in the head while holding her baby.

Later, some of the ATF agents shouted the following comment at the body of Randy’s wife, Vicki: “We had pancakes for breakfast, Mrs. Weaver, what did you have?”
