May 27, 2008 -- The polar bears are doing just fine, thank you very much.
So says Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who announced last week that her state would sue to block Washington from listing the animals as "threatened" under the Endangered Species Act.
And it's a good thing, too - because the new bear-population protections mask what may be the most serious threat to American economic might in decades.
Yes, polar bears.
The polar bear, you see, marks the first species on the "threatened" list whose supposed predicament is linked directly to global warming.
The current Alaskan polar-bear population may be near an all-time high.
But Interior Department computer models - such as they are - project widespread melting of the polar ice the bears need to hunt.
And that's a big problem, given the near-limitless powers embedded in the Endangered Species Act.

That’s what I thought. It also drives up the price of baby Harp Seal Burgers.
I love baby Harp Seal burgers. Can’t afford them since the Polar Bear population has grown so much over the past 40 years.
They also like Walrus. Coo coo ca choo.
Good photos.
He's nuts. Probably all the opium he did in his youth.
Th Bush administration used the designation “threatened”, not “endangered”. This listing does not require the drastic measures that the latter listing would.
Notwithstanding my tag line, I would LOVE to see McCain pick her for VP, but, on the other hand, she’s probably better positioned to fight this nonsense as AK Gov
In April 2007, Palin announced plans to create a new sub-cabinet to address climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions within Alaska.
Scary stuff. Is she a global warmist or not?
Yes, she'd bea fine choice.
Ah, the good old days, killing a tree and bbqing baby harp seal burgers over an open, climate change inducing, smoky fire kindled from the tree's sad remains...

Tastes like chicken.
"If you're not at the table, you're on the menu."
Where, Oh Where, can I find a written account of the process of deliberate, rational analysis of relevant data, by reputable and qualified scientists, that led to the conclusion that carbon dioxide, uniquely among the several substances and energy sources that contribute to the warming of our planet’s gaseous atmosphere, is responsible for the claimed current warming trend, a trend which, even as I write this, may actually have become a trend toward a lower rate of warming?
Did such an exercise in rational analyses take place? Does such a written record exist, anywhere?
How can we file an amicus curiea (sp?) suit in support of Alaska’s effort?
Exactly!
We actually hav e had an increase in the polar bear population -- but computer modeling shows that there should be a decrease. So we're required under the anti-development, Luddite "environmental" laws to declare them endangered.
McCain couldn't clean her lickspittle.
An order with which I would he told Interior not to comply.
Yum yum
They also eat Baby Harp Seal hunters.
“A great VP for McCain”
Sounds a little to conservative for our watermelon candidate.
Interesting point. However, I’m not sure Governor Palin is pretending to go along with the global warmists just to have a voice on the matter. This is off-topic, but she also vetoed legislation that would have barred same sex couples from receiving benefits. In a nutshell, this means that she might be on board with the gay rights agenda.
As I said earlier, she needs to be vetted. She might still be a conservative, or she might be McCain Lite.
