Obama: Limbaugh, Lou Dobbs Spur Latino Hate

Presidential candidate Barack Obama used a Florida fundraiser to attack conservative media personalities Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh for their militant stand on immigration policy.

Appearing Thursday at the Westin Diplomat near Fort Lauderdale, Obama lashed out at critics of illegal immigrants and migrant workers.

During his speech, Obama said, "A certain segment has basically been feeding a kind of xenophobia. There’s a reason why hate crimes against Hispanic people doubled last year.”

Who is behind the rise in hate crimes?

Obama left no doubt who he believes to be the culprits. “If you have people like Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh ginning things up, it’s not surprising that would happen,” he told the crowd.

According to press reports, Obama collected more than $500,000 from some 800 donors at the event.

One of the ironic things is that many "working class" whites are technically poor, but still refer to themselves as "middle class."

To the Mexican immigrants who feel they are wrongly treated with skepticism or even contempt. How do they act towards the Guatemalan immigrants to Mexico (legal and illegal)?

You should hear my wife, who is a naturalized legal US citizen of Central American origin, complain about the illegals. Why should she have had to jump through all the hoops to gain citizenship when these folks would get it “free”? We live in Miami, and most of my neighbors are legal immigrants from various Latin American countries who feel the same way she does.

Mexico deports some 200,000 illegals each year.

Their border is most definitely not open to illegal immigration from their brother republics. They do not believe in the supposed benefits of cheaper immigrant labor as a boost to the economy, not when its their own economy.

Obama is implying that people are sitting at home making paper chains listening to Rush and hear him mention illegal immigration, and decide that they will now hate everyone who even looks like they might be from south of the border.

Senator, Rush’s audience tunes in and hears someone voicing some of their own beliefs publicly. We have very few intelligent choices of medium in which we hear our own opinions, and possible ways to fight for what we believe.

Americans of ALL colors hanging on to middle class while living in a city overrun with illegals who care not one whit for America and her customs, laws, or etiquette, are sick of this Slavery Lite that the employers profit somewhat from, but the cities and taxpayers overfund. Who cares what the illegals look like? It’s the fact that they are breaking the law by being here, and that we are forced to subsidize them when we’d rather spend our social services money to help Americans in need.

I never understood why you folks in Cali never learned the dirty little tricks we use in NJ: 1. Limit rentals to certain areas, 2. keep illegals and the American ghetto underclass in said areas (usually rotten industrial cities like Paterson and Camden, where no sane person would want to live anyway).

"Snob zoning" works where I'm from. Its a key reason why folks here don't go ballistic on the immigration issue (even though I think they should).

In my 60’s riot torn, 90’s sanctuary town those hate crimes tend to be performed by Blacks on Hispanics. The largest crime being the mugging of just paid Friday workers coming out of the local bars. The intoxicated ones make for easy prey. Sometimes they go overboard and the beating results in a death.

So Barry, since Rush and Lou probably don’t have very large Black audiences, how are they to blame?

I don't know where he got that statistic, but it wasn't from the FBI. They haven't tabulated the 2007 Hate Crimes yet. Or at least, it isn't online. If he meant it doubled between 2005 and 2006, he's wrong. In 2005 there were 722 Hispanic victims of a hate crime (which includes "experiencing intimidation" by the way) and in 2006 there were 819.
