SAN ANGELO, Texas - A state appellate court has ruled that child welfare officials had no right to seize more than 400 children living at a polygamist sect's ranch.
The Third Court of Appeals in Austin ruled that the grounds for removing the children were "legally and factually insufficient" under Texas law. They did not immediately order the return of the children.
Child welfare officials removed the children on the grounds that the sect pushed underage girls into marriage and sex and trained boys to become future perpetrators.
The appellate court ruled the chaotic hearing held last month did not demonstrate the children were in any immediate danger, the only measure of taking children from their homes without court proceedings.
You got boogiemen hiding in the closet? You convict with no facts and then create sensational ideas in your head.
Well, things haven’t changed much.
Though most are trying their best to maintain civility.
It seems the threads start off with domination by one ‘side’ , then the other, then it kinda mellows out into decent debate.
Welcome back. Is DONEIT back as well?
Ouch. So that would leave the men still at the farm, the wives and kids pretty much where they started.
You just have to shake your head and wonder if more than three minutes worth of contemplation took place before the initial raids.
My next prediction is that some CPS, local prosecutors and law inforcement officials are going to be looking for new jobs.
There might also be some charges coming down the pike based on improper actions also.
Great. The worst possible tactics and outcome for the children has been masterminded by the CPS and local authorites.
What a fiasco.
I am glad the Founding Fathers put into the Constitution that part about “Congress shall have the power to nose around in peoples’ private affairs.” ;-)
As this case continues, sometimes it seems as if the ‘facts’ get muddier and muddier.
Hear! Hear! These kids will be 10X more screwed up after a couple years in foster care than they ever would be at the Yearning For Zion Ranch.
Point well taken here but..... It is the vile forces at work that are trying to destroy the old fashioned family. Sneering at June Cleaver and "Father Knows Best". A battle that is being fought day to day. I would venture that does not describe the majority of American families. Who do not relish the sad Britney Spears. Sadly, I agree that there is a risk inherent in life and living at any period in history.
Are the fathers irresponsible lazy bastards who use the state to support their offspring? Yup. Should all the men who took an underage "wife" go to jail? You bet 'cha.
I will ask rhetorically, using the time honoured words of the Declaration of Independence.
.....that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life,Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
This includes women and children.
Uh, no, it doesn't. I'm sorry, but I have to go against you on this.
Heck, I have even been on the phone with major news organizations over their mischaracterizations in the past (they rarely make the mistake anymore, so I'm not so busy these days, thanks to the current conflict).
You've got a good memory - That series of exchanges was probably the worst I've seen. As you'll recall, I went from being labeled a Troll on through to being an advocate of pedophilia. This despite actually taking time to try to disabuse them of their myopic, ignorant suspicions. What a bunch of self appointed nut-cases! LOL
Did you see this on FOX before today’s ruling:

By the way, thanks for getting this thread going.
I checked that thread out, and it was sad to go back over the accusations leveled at those who predicted what is taking place now could very likely be the end result. None of them were happy to see kids abused, but wanted things done right. Well, kudos to those who championed CPS, local DA and law enforcement actions here. They wound up supporting what now appears like a complete collapse of the case.
I’m not sure where this will end now, but it doesn’t look good for real justice for the real culprits.
I don’t know if that’s true. I know that I wish that every allegation was false, because that would mean none of the girls had been forced to get married. But I rather doubt the entire thing is made up.
Documentation, if you please.
A correct prediction from FOX News:

He says none of the “evidence” CPS gained by interrogating the children can be used in a court of law because it was obtained illegally.
It is scary. If you disagree with the actions of the state of TX in this situation, you love or are a child rapist or you hate your government and have a conspiratorial view. People forget that government will run amok if the people it serves do not keep it in check. Healthy skepticism of the state is necessary to protect our basic rights.
That is perfect! Thanks.
Abuse hotlines rarely ask for callback numbers, because they don’t want to scare off people who are looking for help and are afraid of being found out.
They lied to the women.

They lied about the women’s ages (and darn well knew the truth.)

IMHO, it’s worse when people in positions of responsibility lie and break the law than when your average Joe Schmoe does it. Why? Because they have the power to do some serious damage.
