Conservatives dont love John McCain, but unless theyre considering abandoning their cause with Atlas Shrugged proportions, theres no way in hell theyll vote for Barack Obama.
Sometimes, things have to get worse before they get better. And with that idea in mind, the conservative movement really is Americas crutch.
The most specific example is economics, as conservatives constantly preach lower taxes and greater individual freedom. One would think that the Bush tax cuts, which have yielded continued economic growth (yes, our economy is growing, despite the lies you keep hearing), and the burgeoning economy during the Reagan Administration would provide enough proof to, at the very least, convince people that maybe, just maybe, theres something to be said for lower taxes.

All I heard in response was, "What and vote for John Kerry?"
Note that I wasn't telling conservatives to vote for Kerry, only to hold Bush accountable for his actions before voting for him so that he would not use their votes as a mandate to proceed with his brand of immigration reform.
Well, guess what? After re-electing Bush, he used it as a mandate to proceed with his Mexico-first policies. But, by then, the damage had already been done."
I thought conservatives held Bushes feet to the fire pretty much throughout his presidency, probably better in the second term than the first, primarily because of the focus on the WOT.
And candidates, including President Bush have to understand that our votes for them, doesn't mean we're in agreement with all their stands on issues of policy. I doubt president Bush thought his successful bid for a second term, meant we agreed with him on the immigration issue. He has been stubborn about his liberal support of Mexico and immigration since day one. It is more likely he believed the U.S voter returning him to the office of the presidency, was a validation of the War in Iraq more than anything else.
A great many of us supported and opposed president Bush when we thought we should. I don't agree that conservatives fell down on that job for any reason other than the WOT, if in fact they did fall down on the job.
And if there is a president McCain, conservatives will be watching him almost as closely as Obama, given most of our perception that we have many areas of disagreement with McCain.
Your post was filled with some excellent information. Thank you.
Thank you very, very much. I most appreciate your kind words. : )
The last time we tried that it got us the largest tax hike in American history, gutted the military, a nuclear dictatorship in North Korea, the door left wide open for the 9/11 attack, etc.
Not damaging conservatism is less important than not damaging America.
When called on your caustic mannerisms, you resort to lying. How utterly charming.
Until then, I will continue to plan to enjoy the few years that I feel the country has left.
Sorry to say that I'm leaning towards your point of view on this one. I just don't think that I can bring myself to vote for old Juan McPain. I've gone back and forth on this but the global warming nonsense finally did it for me. I'll be going third party in this one.
Tom DeLay has stated that McCain has done more damage to the conservative movement the last 10 years then any other single person.
Screw McCain, I don’t reward bad behaviour in my kids and I sure as hell won’t in MCCain.
Well, some would argue that Tom "Nothing Left to Cut in this clean budget" DeLay did more to damage the conservative movement in the last 10 years years.
Then again, some would argue that's what GWB did.
Failure, indeed, has many fathers.
Yes, T, our disagreement is minor.
What is indisputable is that you are a terrific person, a wonderful Freeper, and a great American.
I’d call you a sweetie, but then Obama would make me apologize.
If he does win, his vindictive nature will rear its ugly head by punishing principled conservatives who didn't slavishly support him.
He'll go all the way for the liberals who brung him to the dance.
If you refer to the ACU, his real number is 32. It’s dishonest to vote correctly on a couple items, skip everything else, then claim to be a conservative.
McCain fought against many issues conservatives were trying to move forward.
And his own liberal ideas that he has put into law.
Not to a koolaid drinking smug ass McCainiac troll, it's not. That's pure maverick courage on display, mah FRiend.
John S. McCain, a split-personality or just looney tunes?
You’re straying off the subject. The subject is McCain sucks, he’s always sucked and I’d rather get screwed by a dem than an R. I won’t vote for him and I’m stunned that you might.
I won’t be a part of watching the Republican party and their terrorized minons help elect a John McCain to destroy what is left of conservatism.
Besides McCain has stated he doesn’t need the conservative vote to win.
I find it interesting in light of this his people continue to come here and try to get us to vote for him. That way he doesn’t need to move to the right, he can stay left of center.
If McCain wants the conservative vote he knows how to get it.
“Screw McCain, I dont reward bad behaviour in my kids and I sure as hell wont in MCCain.”
And with that perfect comment I’m off to something else. I’m not even going to discuss this presidential race anymore. We have no say in what is happening. McCain is PROOF of that. People like us who are educated and somewhat intelligent can’t even agree....let the idiots pick the president, they do anyway. Probably less a waste of time working on congress.
Regards,
B.
LOL. I find it funny someone would suggest I was one of his people. I was just saying that when it comes to assigning blame for the last decade there are so many worthy targets, including Senator McCain (like DeLay, Hastert, Bush, Frist, Lott, etc....)
6-7 seats plus dem voting RINOs equals filibuster proof.
I am ready to let the whole house collapse and then set out to rebuild it again. The foundation is cracked, there is severe structural damage, and no amount of paint and wallpaper is going to change that.
Sorry, I didn’t mean you. But some newbies have shown up and have a very pro McCain agenda.
The other day I read where McCain has teams of bloggers discussing his stands online..
My comment was a general statement.
