BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A soldier used the Quran -- Islam's holy book -- for target practice, forcing the chief U.S. commander in Baghdad to issue a formal apology on Saturday.

Maj. Gen. Jeffery Hammond apologizes after a soldier admitted using the Quran for target practice. Maj. Gen. Jeffery Hammond, commander of U.S. forces in Baghdad, apologized to leaders in Radhwaniya, in the western outskirts of Baghdad, for the staff sergeant who was a sniper section leader assigned to the headquarters of the 64th Armored Regiment.

He also read a letter of apology by the shooter. It was the first time the incident -- which tested the relationship between U.S.-backed Sunni militiamen and the military -- was made public since it was discovered May 11. "I come before you here seeking your forgiveness," Hammond said to tribal leaders and others at the apology ceremony.

"In the most humble manner I look in your eyes today and I say please forgive me and my soldiers." Another military official kissed a Quran and presented is as "a humble gift" to the tribal leaders.

What?

If (Iraqi) Army personnel were in the USA conducting military operations, the rest of all should be building an insurgency the likes of which have never before been experienced (our government would be obviously non-functioning and all powers naturally revert to the people of the several states...).

Any foreign power operating in the USA whether with or without the consent of the US Government, would be the ultimate bane of liberty; and therefore subject to immediate iradication by any and all means. What you suggest is the ultimate goal of the Islamic jihad.

I’ll skip commenting on your reference to “violent, extemist Christians” as an unfortunate and silly analogy, especially since your tagline refers to your Christian faith....

Good Grief!

GOd Bless and Molon Labe.

You completely missed the point of my post. I was attempting to show the Iraqi situation reversed due to the people who couldn’t see a problem with one of our soldiers using their “bible” for target practice.

How about you get off the forum?

All you are doing is flaming people if they disagree with your PC point of view, and it's annoying.

You don’t piss on your allies boots and tell them it’s raining

The Iraqis are NOT our allies.

They are sucking our billions and our BLOOD and still not giving up anything. They still want to be 7th century islamic IDIOTS.

They still hate israel and consider Americans infidels.

They mandate in their constitution NO LAW SHALL CONTRADICT ISLAM

They have stated that they will not permit the U.S. attacking Iran from Iraqi soil. That is not a friend.

What are we to expect when our own President calls islam a religion of peace and sits down with them to eat that stupid ramadingdong dinner a few weeks after 9/11.

The story is also here, genius:

Here is the video of the pathetic groveling and sniveling, not to mention throwing the enlisted Soldier completely under the bus. While it is a crime to desecrate the Koran under Sharia Law, I was unaware that Americans have to obey Sharia Law:

I know.

I am just so sick of it all.

Islam was founded on violence, rape, destruction and murder. It has not changed a single hair since its invention, and now we are "investigating and prosecuting" enlisted men if they have a problem with the EVIL OF ISLAM.

It has now come to this:

Our military is NO PLACE for an American who despises evil things.

It's a place for careerist and opportunist officers who destroy the lives of enlisted men if they don't like Islam.

I appreciate both your insight and your ability to explain your beliefs in clear, concise terms.

Incidentally, MAJ Coughlin's research was ignored by virtually all of the high level officers he presented it to.

Okay, I’m sorry, this is not my country so I’m not in a position to comment on what is good or bad for you...but ugh, that video of the American kissing the Qur’aan was stomach-turning. WHY?

Because it's only going to get worse from here.

The General branded the Soldier as a "criminal" because he shot a stupid book.

The Army is no place for him, now.

He will be lucky if they don't court-martial him.

Good dhimmis. I'm sure your Muslim overlords will give you a nice pat on the head.

Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting abasement and dhimmitude. What a disgrace from our military to apologize for this. Whoever made the apology should be ashamed of themselves. Just disgusting self abasement in the face of an arrogant and vicious enemy.

We are trying to manage a pack of wolves by treating them like a flock of sheep.

The ONLY thing that will earn ANY respect is the Alpha Male — and there will only be ONE Alpha Male in the pack. Right now, we’ve done yeoman service in demonstrating to them that it’s NOT us!

"In the most humble manner I look in your eyes today and I say please forgive me and my soldiers."

This would be the perfectly appropriate thing to say -- if he was on his knees, with a scimitar hanging over his neck.

And if it worked -- if it got them to smirk at the humiliation of the defeated infidel, and thus spare his life, his next appropriate move would be to get the drop on them and then radio in for the mop-pail brigade.

The point being (to follow on to my previous post) that by saying that — by playing the insipid, solicitous, pleading vanquished — he send them a clear, unambiguous message: “YOU are the Big Dog, and I, your unworthy slave.”

It's cowardice and weakness on display, and I find it as dangerous as I do disgusting.

Next thing we know, Soldiers will get a court-martial for truthfully saying that Islam is NOT a religion of peace.

The US Army standard is getting ridiculous.

What a sickening use of my taxpayer dollars.
