Dems and High Oil Prices
http://www.americanthinker.com ^ | 5-13-08 | Patrick Casey

While oil and gasoline prices continue to rise, the rhetoric and actions of Democrats in Congress seem destined to push those costs even higher, contrary to the Dems' promise that they used to get elected to majorities in 2006 that they had "a common-sense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices".

Investor's Business Daily has a continuing series on "Breaking the Back of High Oil", and today's edition has a fascinating breakdown of some of the actions that the Democrats have taken over the last three decades or so to ensure that our country has no defense against the effects of rising oil prices. While doing so, they've made us all captives of OPEC and such tinpot dictatorships such as Venezuela.

Today's editorial in the series, Who Is Really Responsible For The High Prices You Pay For Gasoline?, points out that we have attempted to get Congressional approval for drilling in Alaska's ANWR region for the last 28 years. Remember that the next time a Democrat brings up the "fact" that it will take 10 years to get ANWR on line - if President Clinton hadn't vetoed ANWR drilling the time that it evaded blocking maneuvers by Democrats and got through a Republican controlled Congress in the mid-90s, we'd be in the second or third year of active production from that oil field. Any such domestic drilling would have produced substantial downward pressure on international oil prices set by the cartels - so in addition to having our own new source of oil, prices we pay internationally today would have been cheaper.

Other actions during the past few decades that the Democrats (and a few stray Republicans) have taken to ensure that we have high energy prices include:

"But we have a nation of foolish voters that vote in the morons that block resource recovery in the name of environmental do-goodery and then those same stupid voters whine and moan that the fellow making $10 an hour can't afford the gas to drive to work."

It is known that at times, trust in a leader can be catastrophic if the leader uses poor judgment. People have lost lives and fortunes. I am genuinely saddened that we are entering a catastrophic era in our nation's history. Morons elect morons, and there's nothing we can really do about it now but stay alert and try to survive.

All I know is that gas was about $2.20/gallon in January 2007.  Amazingly enough about the time Democrats took control of congress.

Something you could nail up on the door to the DemonRAT house.

Can I use your words for a letter to the editor?

I would go but I can’t afford the gas to get across the country.

Are you kidding? McCains anti GW plan would quadruple all energy prices in his first administration alone — gasoline, oil, coal, electricity, steam — you name it. There’s no way to attack dems on gas prices if you are pitching cap and trade on CO2. You’ll be cold, hungry and on a 25 mile tether to your home.

With the coming change in administration, it will be a wonder if the price of gasoline doesn’t get to $10 per gallon.

Yep.

Not to mention home heating oil, and diesel ( which carries or flys America's food and freight...

When I started this:

Sticker Shock-$3 a gallon gas? Click the picture:

Gas was US $1.45 a gallon... it's now $3.89 around here. Note, and note well, the first reply was snarky- who's laughing now?

I still stand by my vest-pocket summary:

I've been saying for years the way to revive and restore the economy ( and it would have headed off these oil price problems as well ) was to-
1- drill for gas & oil like crazy- onshore, offshore, and in Alaska
2- go nuclear for power
3- convert stationary plants to clean coal technology
4- slash taxes and regulations like crazy

I firmly believe that their ultimate goal here is to nationalize all energy production, as has been done in countless socialist toilets all over the world. Remember, “Production for need, not for profit.”

Yes, On Dec. 6, 1995, President Clinton vetoed the Balanced Budget Act which it included a provision to open ANWR.

IMO, we would all be well advised to cut and paste this and send it to each piece of political human waste in DC along with your local and state political elites. They’re all to blame!!! The losers will be the American people, their children, and grandchildren. Mail this to your newspapers and your friends. Liberals are as much America’s enemies as the terrorists. The feel good “do-gooders” are destroying our way of life. We have met the enemy and it’s Liberals.

Liberal DemoRAT Energy Plan:

1. You can’t drill for oil anywhere.
2. You can’t build a refinery anywhere.
3. You can’t build a nuclear power plant anywhere.
4. You can’t burn coal for electricity.
5. You can’t allow the oil companies to reinvest their profits into exploration.
6. But you can drive up the price of food by subsidizing an ethanol industry that takes land out of food production while using more energy than it creates.
7.You must continue to tax every gallon of gas that we put in our tanks.
8.You must threaten all energy users with additional ‘carbon taxes’.
9. And just in case some entrepreneur out there somewhere may have an idea for an alternative energy concept that just might work, you must raise the capital gains tax so that investors have less capital and less incentive to invest in his/her project. count your blessings.

With the coming change in administration, it| will be a wonder if the price of gasoline doesn’t get to $10 per gallon.

All this and more thanks to Liberal DemoRATS.

My hypocritical senator Dole. We just can't blame dems.

Hot Topic - Rising Gas Prices

I am very concerned about high gas prices, and we must take serious and responsible actions that provide families and businesses with some near-term relief. That is why I have called on the president to immediately stop depositing domestic crude oil into the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Temporarily halting deposits to the reserve can provide some relief at the pump because of an increased supply of oil available for refinement, and it will send the right signal to the market that the U.S. Government will take action to address high gas prices. Furthermore, this will not jeopardize national security because the reserve currently contains more than 701 million barrels, exceeding the necessary 90-day supply.

While we focus on the short-term, we must also work towards long-term solutions. Given that the reasons for oil price fluctuation are more complicated than simply supply and demand, I believe our government must have an oil strategy. We need to increase supply by investing at home and increasing or starting environmentally-sound production in areas such as the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska that are broadly supported by the local population. I also support lessening demand through technology and conservation, including further increasing fuel economy standards for all vehicles and providing point-of-sale rebates for hybrid and clean diesel vehicle purchases, which will save millions of barrels of oil per day. Elizabeth Dole 1993:

Author: Senator Elizabeth Dole October 27th, 2003 - Since 1993, a moratorium enacted by former President George H.W. Bush has prevented drilling along the Outer Continental Shelf and provided a much-needed boost to our coastal economy. Each year thousands of families flock to North Carolina beaches to soak in some sun, dip in the cool waters and spend time with family and friends. Each visit brings welcomed tourism dollars and jobs that are so vital to our coastal communities. But today, the coastal environment and the tourism industry of our state, as well as all other coastal states, are under attack by a provision in the energy bill that could lead to new offshore oil drilling. The provision would require the Interior Department to conduct an inventory of all oil and natural gas resources on the Outer Continental Shelf in moratoria areas, the area of land just off the coast and in the Gulf of Mexico. The energy bill passed by the Senate did not include a provision to lift the moratorium, and members of the House of Representatives defeated a similar provision in their version of the energy bill. When Senate and House conferees began to negotiate a joint version of the bill, however, the offshore inventory provision emerged. This provision is simply unacceptable for those living in, working in and visiting our coastal communities. Tourism plays a vital role in the North Carolina economy, and it remains a strong industry despite difficult economic times. Offshore drilling would drastically impact the economy and the livelihood of our coastal communities. Advocates for this inventory label it as information gathering—but we already know what resources are located along our coasts from information gathered by the Department of the Interior. Why then, especially during tough economic times, should our state be asked to bear the risk of exploration for resources that are under moratoria and not even accessible for development? The physical price of this risk—polluted beaches, disrupted marine ecosystems, lost tourism—speaks to the heart of the issue. The inventory provision in the energy bill is a grave departure from the historical protection of these areas. I am concerned that this provision hints to a backsliding from that protection by allowing intrusive activities into moratoria areas, through a study that is not needed. The only logical explanation for the inventory would be for future exploration activity and drilling. There is no doubt that now, more than ever, we must work to end our dependence on foreign oil sources. But we cannot do so by ignoring the wishes of the coastal communities that oppose drilling. Our local people, not the federal government, should decide what is best for their areas.

May 13, 2008

WASHINGTON - The Senate has rejected a Republican energy plan that calls for opening an Alaska wildlife refuge and some offshore waters to oil development. Supporters of the measure couldn't get the needed 60 votes to overcome a Democratic-led filibuster threat. Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said more domestic oil production is needed to keep prices in check and to reduce U.S. dependence on oil imports. Opponents said areas such as the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and coastal waters that have been off limits to drilling for 25 years ought to remain that out of bounds to oil companies. The GOP measure, defeated Tuesday by a vote of 56-42, would have allowed coastal states to get a waiver to the offshore drilling ban. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TOPICS: Breaking News; Business/Economy; Government; Politics/Elections; Click to Add Topic KEYWORDS: anwr; democrats; energy; gop; mccain; obstructionist; oil; oildrilling; rejects; senate; Click to Add Keyword -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ Report Abuse | Bookmark ] -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Navigation: use the links below to view more comments. first previous 1-50, 51-100, 101-150, 151-200, 201-245 next last -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To: NormsRevenge; All The list is up: YEAs ---42 Alexander (R-TN) Allard (R-CO) Barrasso (R-WY) Bennett (R-UT) Bond (R-MO) Brownback (R-KS) Bunning (R-KY) Burr (R-NC) Chambliss (R-GA) Coburn (R-OK) Cochran (R-MS) Corker (R-TN) Cornyn (R-TX) Craig (R-ID) Crapo (R-ID) DeMint (R-SC) Domenici (R-NM) Ensign (R-NV) Enzi (R-WY) Graham (R-SC) Grassley (R-IA) Gregg (R-NH) Hagel (R-NE) Hatch (R-UT) Hutchison (R-TX) Isakson (R-GA) Kyl (R-AZ) Landrieu (D-LA) Lugar (R-IN) McConnell (R-KY) Murkowski (R-AK) Roberts (R-KS) Sessions (R-AL) Shelby (R-AL) Specter (R-PA) Stevens (R-AK) Sununu (R-NH) Thune (R-SD) Vitter (R-LA) Voinovich (R-OH) Warner (R-VA) Wicker (R-MS) NAYs ---56 Akaka (D-HI) Baucus (D-MT) Bayh (D-IN) Biden (D-DE) Bingaman (D-NM) Boxer (D-CA) Brown (D-OH) Byrd (D-WV) Cantwell (D-WA) Cardin (D-MD) Carper (D-DE) Casey (D-PA) Clinton (D-NY) Coleman (R-MN) Collins (R-ME) Conrad (D-ND) Dodd (D-CT) Dole (R-NC) Dorgan (D-ND) Durbin (D-IL) Feingold (D-WI) Feinstein (D-CA) Harkin (D-IA) Inouye (D-HI) Johnson (D-SD) Kennedy (D-MA) Kerry (D-MA) Klobuchar (D-MN) Kohl (D-WI) Lautenberg (D-NJ) Leahy (D-VT) Levin (D-MI) Lieberman (ID-CT) Lincoln (D-AR) Martinez (R-FL) McCaskill (D-MO) Menendez (D-NJ) Mikulski (D-MD) Murray (D-WA) Nelson (D-FL) Nelson (D-NE) Obama (D-IL) Pryor (D-AR) Reed (D-RI) Reid (D-NV) Rockefeller (D-WV) Salazar (D-CO) Sanders (I-VT) Schumer (D-NY) Smith (R-OR) Snowe (R-ME) Stabenow (D-MI) Tester (D-MT) Webb (D-VA) Whitehouse (D-RI) Wyden (D-OR) Not Voting - 2 Inhofe (R-OK) McCain (R-AZ)

You have to remember the end goal -

that Americans stop using so many resources and live a lifestyle closer to those in the third world.

Well, at least, MOST Americans should stop using so many resources. The elite leftists can use all they want to, of course.

This is the Soviet/Communist model, and they love it.

We need a second Boston Tea Party only this time we need to throw elitist politicians into the bay or “out of office.” With the elected human waste in DC who needs enemies overseas; we have enough sucking off the American people here. IMO, elected politicians in DC are no better than terrorists in Iraq or Afganistan. After all, both have the same goal of destroying America for power.

Make it $20, or better, $30 per gallon! Let the cost of gasoline go up until it's unbearable!

Then, it'll be open-season on the eco-nuts, and the dimocRATS ....... FRegards
