Boeing Shuts Down Production Line At Pa. Plant (possible helicopter sabotage)

FBI Monitoring 'Incident' At Ridley Township Plant

RIDLEY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS3/AP) ― Boeing Rotorcraft Systems temporarily shut down a production line for several hours Tuesday at its suburban Philadelphia plant because of possible irregularities discovered in two military helicopters.

The company disclosed few specifics about why the shutdown of the H-47 Chinook helicopter line at the plant in Ridley Township, Pa., occurred. It said an investigation was under way and it was working with the Defense Contract Management Agency, which oversees military suppliers.

Boeing officials said they discovered "irregularities" in two of the aircrafts that were being assembled at the plant. The nature of the irregularities was not immediately known.

Jack Satterfield, a company spokesman, said workers were expected to report for work Wednesday, even as the investigation continued.

Rep. Joe Sestak, a Democrat whose district includes the plant, said he was told during a briefing that wires that appeared to be broken or severed were found in one helicopter and a suspicious washer was found in a second.

Sestak said the assessment was preliminary and he expects that the findings of a more thorough review would be available on Wednesday. He praised Boeing's handling of the situation, and said it was much too early to speculate on what happened.

Satterfield said the shutdown was isolated to the line at the Pennsylvania plant and does not affect operational aircraft.

The Chinook is known as the Army's workhorse aircraft. It is used to transport troops and supplies.

Boeing is currently producing new Chinooks for the Army, as well as updating older models.

A message left Tuesday evening with the Defense Contract Management Agency was not immediately returned.

Located in a Dim’s district??? So that means the district is Dim to elect this communist. So, that means that most everyone working at said plant has the same opinions of the military as the commie Dim representative. Just like out in WA state. They have thousands of military people at Fort Lewis, McCord AFB, the Navy facilities all around Bremerton, Silverdale, Poulsbo and Everett. Billions of $$$$ tax payer monies out there. THEY HATE THE MILITARY. Wish the military would go away. But leave the tax dollars. Probably the same here in PA.

Yeah, the Chinook has been around for a while, since 1962. Hey, that’s longer than the M-16, which has been in service since 1965. Apparently, it’s a good, dependable aircraft. Likewise, so is the .50-cal machine gun; it’s been in service since 1921, and today’s MG’s are pretty much the exact same weapon we had in World War II.

I respectfully disagree. Technically, we’re in a state of declared war. It’s the purists that won’t accept this technicality on account of not having a fancy piece of paper with strong wording and lots of curlicues.

“Just make sure the Jesus nut is on nice and tight.”

Roger that. Loose the Jesus nut and you loose the rotor then you loose the helo and crew. (BTW, I've parachuted from CH-47s --tailgate jumps...great platform (when properly assembled!))

No, I think the more likely suspect has to do with the upcoming award of the $11 billion CSAR-X contract. Boeing won it twice. Twice the competitors challenged.

The CH-47 outperforms the competition in virtually every category: ceiling, top speed, cabin size, surviveability, and significantly, range. The airframe design is low-risk, with over 40 years in the air. The USAF chose it twice.

The extra time from the challenges has let the competitors tweak their designs to get closer. What they need next is a Boeing embarrassment. One of the competitors is particularly desperate. The other one is offering a Eurocopter.

The next important date, iirc, is September.

Just a theory - and I hope it is wrong.

If anything, what we are seeing is part of a trade war. See my previous post. I really hope it’s wrong, but the timing...

A little well placed corporate sabotage. Sounds plausible.

“There are up to 70,000 people worshipping in 34 mosques in the city alone, leading one local leader to describe Philadelphia as “a Mecca for US Muslims”.”

I thought that was Detroit?

“They’re still making Chinooks? You would think they would have come up with something better by now.”

Aw now Big Windy is a solid piece of machinery

The new “F” model is for all intents and purposes an all new helicopter capable carrying a heavier payload farther, faster, and at higher altitudes.

The last unit I was in had a few .50’s that were WW2 vintage right down to the original walnut grips.

New designs come and go, but occasionally one comes along that is good enough to withstand the test of time. The late Frank Piasecki’s tandem rotor concept is one of them, hard to beat for everything you mentioned. Long live the “Happy Hooker”.

Surprise!

Actually the whole region from Detroit, Cleveland, Toledo, Philly, and into Montreal is well represented by the muslim population(s).
