Connecticut Criminalizes Nooses As Threats
WFSB Channel 3 ^

Gov. M. Jodi Rell has signed into law Senate Bill 604, An Act Concerning Hate Crimes, which makes it a crime to display a noose as a way of harassing or threatening someone.

"Connecticut simply will not tolerate bigotry or racism," Rell said. "Let this bill send that message loud and clear. Using a noose -- a symbol of the racially motivated lynchings during the late 19th and first half of the 20th century -- to intimidate anyone because of their race or any other characteristic is a repugnant and cowardly act. No one should be subject to that kind of treatment.”

What if I don’t use it for intimidation but rather just tie it for practice and to use to tie around logs I drag behind my bike like when I was a kid ?

Is that crimminal ?

I suspect more nooses will begin to appear as a consequence of this asinine Bill.

A kid in Jena, La. dispayed a noose while protesting a demonstation by Sharpton and Jackson and received one year in prison for it recently.

The article has all the words I need.

Connecticut is bigoted, racist, repugnant, and cowardly.

Nooses are bigotry or racism. More whites swung by the noose in this country than blacks ANYDAY. Think Nathan Hale. Think cattle rustlers.

What hogwash.

It's not folks in Connecticut who need an anti-noose law.

This photo was taken at the elementary school run by Grambling State University, LA, during the controversy over the Jena Six. "Kindergarten and first-grade students at Alma J. Brown Elementary School were being taught why nooses are a symbol of racism."

Politically correct fool. You people in CT had better learn how to display a noose NOT as a way of harassing or threatening someone.

YES WE CAN!!!

There are, I believe states that still have hanging as a means of the meting out the death sentence. Will that be considered racist?
