A kid in Jena, La. dispayed a noose while protesting a demonstation by Sharpton and Jackson and received one year in prison for it recently. In that context, I don't think you need a BS hate crimes statute to recognize that displaying a noose is really a way of threatening a lynching. If what you described really happened, that kid belongs in prison.
