Flight Attendant Accused of Setting Fire on Airplane
ABC News/Associated Press ^ | May 15, 2008 | DAVE KOLPACK
Posted on May 15, 2008 11:51:45 PM PDT by Berlin_Freeper
A flight attendant angry about his work route set a fire in an airplane bathroom, forcing an emergency landing, authorities said.
The Compass Airlines flight carrying 72 passengers and four crew members landed safely in Fargo on May 7 after smoke filled the back. No injuries were reported. The plane was flying from Minneapolis to Regina, Saskatchewan, authorities said.
Eder Rojas, 19, appeared in court Thursday, following his arrest a day earlier in Minneapolis, and ordered held without bail, prosecutors said. The charge of setting fire aboard a civil aircraft carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

“Euro 2008 and Terrorism”
By Lorenzo Vidino
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “In 23 days the 2008 European soccer Cup (Euro 2008), this year hosted jointly by Austria and Switzerland, will kickoff. As for any event attracting large crowds and global attention in todays age, authorities are worried about potential terrorist threats. The Euro Cup, in a way, presents the same security features of a Super Bowl, but it is held in 8 different cities over 3 weeks and with the participation of 16 national teams, making security planning significantly more complicated. Just yesterday Swiss newspaper La Liberté reported an interview with Jürg Bühler, a security official with the Swiss Federal Police, in which Mr. Bühler revealed that his agency has been monitoring threats against the event made by several users of various Islamist websites. While there seems to be no specific threat so far, Mr. Bühler correctly pointed out that vigilance should be kept high, as soccer competitions have attracted the attention of jihadist networks in Europe in the past.”

“Al Qaeda ‘planning to attack Euro 2008’”
By Hannah Wood 15/05/2008
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “A flurry of messages have been monitored, by police and security officials in Switzerland, on two Islamist internet forums - sos minbar and As-Sahab - which are favoured by the extremist terrorist group as a means to awaken dormant cells.
One message is reported to say: “Lets transform these two countries, the safest in Europe, into hell - like the hell in Iraq or Afghanistan.”
Another: “The hour has come for fighters of the faith. They must make themselves heard.”
A senior Swiss security official told the newspaper the messages calling for terror attacks on the two nations have multiplied in recent weeks.”

International Egyptian Footballer Wore Shirt With Logo Of Alcoholic Drink Company
Many accusations have recently been leveled against ‘Isam Al-Hadri, Egyptian national soccer team player and goalkeeper for the Swiss soccer club Syon, for agreeing to wear a club shirt with the logo of a company that makes alcoholic drinks.
Muhammad Rafat ‘Uthman, instructor at Al-Azhar University and member of its Center for Islamic Research, said that it was forbidden for Al-Hadri to wear the shirt, and that if the club insisted that he do so he must break his contract and quit.
In contrast, liberal Egyptian thinker Gamal Al-Banna said that Al-Hadri should not be accused, because he had acted like a Muslim minority member should act within a non-Muslim majority.

“Gaza: Bomb explodes at Christian school”
By ASSOCIATED PRESS
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Unknown assailants detonated a bomb outside a Christian school in Gaza City before dawn Friday, causing no injuries.
The explosion was heard in surrounding neighborhoods at around 4 a.m. Damage was visible at the entrance to the Zahwa Rosary School, which is run by Catholic nuns but caters mainly to Muslim students.
Two nuns were in their convent adjacent to the school when the bomb went off, a school official said, and were shaken but unharmed. The official declined to be named, saying she was frightened by the incident and concerned for her safety.
The incident appeared to be the work of a poorly trained individual or group, she said - police told school officials that the bomb had been set incorrectly, and it caused little damage.
The bombing was the latest in a string of attacks on Christian institutions in the overwhelmingly Muslim territory. In the most serious attack, a local Christian activist was murdered in October. His killers have not been found.”

“Norwegian girls ask for it.
Esther of Islam in Europe translated the following interview.”
SNIPPET: “Oslo police recently released its 2007 Rape Report. The report shows a marked increase in Somali rapists, generally on account of gang rapes.
The transcript below is not complete (in the original)”
SNIPPET: “A: But listen now, Norwegian girls complain that foreign boys do this and that, but the reason there are so many rapes is that Norwegian girls go around almost completely naked! That’s like saying “come here and fuck me”, you understand?
Q: You’re saying that Norwegian girls are asking to be raped?
A: Not exactly asking, but when then go out almost completely naked and get completelydrunk in Frogner park or go to a party together with some friend, and then they complain about being raped? It’s their fault, says the 26 year old from Somalia.
Q: But even if they go around lightly dressed and get drunk then they’re certainly not asking to be raped?
A: No, but many of the foreigners aren’t used to this where they come from. They’re not accustomed that girls go dressed as they want, then maybe they interpret this a bit wrong, you understand?”

WARDEN MESSAGE: INDONESIA RAINY SEASON SECURITY PREPARATIONS
The following was reported by an OSAC constituent:
On Wednesday, April 14, around 6:00 p.m., an unknown person threw an explosive device over the wall surrounding the compound of an OSAC constituent in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The resulting explosion caused slight damage to two constituent vehicles and to the walls of the office building. The two onsite security guards were conducting regular patrols around the side and back of the building at the time and were not injured. The guards reported hearing a motorcycle slowly passing the office immediately prior to the explosion. It is therefore being assumed that the perpetrators made use of a motorcycle to flee from the scene. No other staff members were present at the time. The explosive device has subsequently been identified by police investigators as being a hand grenade of unknown origin.
The incident was immediately reported to the local authorities. The police, military and other government agencies are currently investigating the incident but have to date made little progress in identifying either a motive or the perpetrators.
The constituent believes the attack may have been perpetrated by an individual with a personal motive. A number of similar incidents have occurred in the past year in which government offices were targeted by perpetrators for personal reasons. The district in Aceh where the office is located is home to a large number of former combatants, and conflict era ordnance is relatively freely available. These other incidents have also been mostly committed at times when it is known that offices would be vacant, thereby reducing the risk of casualties.
Staff movement and activities were not curtailed or restricted and continued as planned. The situation will be closely monitored and staff reminded of the need to remain vigilant at all times.
Local police and the UN are in agreement with the constituents assessment that the security environment remains generally secure and conducive to unimpeded operations.

“Intel agencies seek help recruiting immigrants”
By PAMELA HESS, Associated Press Writer
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “McLEAN, VA - The U.S. is its own worst enemy when it comes to the desperately important task of recruiting immigrants as spies, analysts and translators in the war on terror, new Americans are telling intelligence officials. The government’s policies raise suspicions and fear in the immigrants’ home countries and disturb potential recruits here who might otherwise want to help.
The U.S. knows it needs the help. At the heart of a Friday summit with immigrant groups was a stark reality: The intelligence agencies lack people who can speak the languages that are needed most, like Arabic, Farsi and Pashtu. More importantly, the agencies lack people with the cultural awareness that allows them to grasp the nuances embedded in dialect, body language and even street graffiti.
At the suburban Virginia summit, not far from the CIA and National Counterterrorism Center, officials gathered more than a dozen representatives of recent immigrant and other ethnic groups to get their recruiting assistance.”
