Frustrated by the state and federal gridlock on solving Seattle's transportation problems, Mayor Greg Nickels suggested secession at a Thursday luncheon.

Not a bad idea. One less blue state.
Look at it this way, you’d need less butter.
You're on, steel_resolve. If you're coming to the Puget Sound region, consider showing up at some Pugest Sound Chapter of Free Republic activities. Mostly get-togethers, which are fun.
Don’t you dare poison my crab.
Seriously...
back AWAY from the crab...
Does this mean that the couple of billions of dollars of gas tax (that they sold to us to help fix the transportation problems STATEWIDE) ain’t gonna get sucked up and all spent on the vampyreduct? Or the 520 bridge?
I’m ALL FOR IT!!
Isn’t this just like a ‘rat bass-turd. His lunatic party is firmly in control of Seattle, King County, and Washington state (not to speak of US Congress!) and he STILL wants to take his ball and go home because he ain’t getting his way!
Welcome to Washington. Once you recognize that the patients are in charge of the asylum it gets (barely) tolerable ;’}
As far as I am concerned, the state of Washington can go....and take Oregon and California with it. They are not, nor have they been American ideals states for a long time.
As one who lives on the East Side, Mayor, I am all for your idea. All I ask is that you extend the secession boundary southward so that it includes Portland. Then adios to all you dweeby Libs.
Ping!
That was my first thought.
But no, every issue must be solved at the highest level of gov’t possible, according to the leftist paradigm.
Noble thoughts, but it will take a restoration of the real separation of powers that existed at the time of the founding. And that would be the separation of powers between the sovereign states and their creation, the constitutionally constrained federal government. So perhaps until then you will join me in the Confederate pledge next time you are at the game. It goes like this:
I pledge allegiance to the flag,
of these United States of America,
And to the Republic, for which it stands,
One nation, under g-d, divisible,
with liberty and justice for all.
What he said.
Bring it.
MY dream would be for the Sonics to stay in Seattle.
Already pinged!
What exactly defines “American ideals states,” exactly? How many states would be left? Sounds like when Barry Goldwater said he wished the entire eastern seaboard would be sawed off and float in to the sea.
Awww. Poor baby. Gweggy's undies got bunched up.
I respectfully withdraw the suggestion. I have to tell you though that crab are scavengers, and having been a Puget Sound scuba diver for for almost 20 years I’ve seen crab eating things you wouldn’t want to know about.
Would this allow the City of Seattle to keep slaves instead of having to raise taxes?
Oh, that’s ok...I don’t mind the OTHER stuff they eat...but Nickels?
Now that gives me a stomach ache!!
;-)
