2008 Election Prayer Thread for McCain/Conservatives: Day 1
April 20, 2008 | Vanity

Posted on 04/19/2008 10:30:29 PM PDT by topher

It is my opinion that we need to pray for our leaders this election.

Many Conservative are disappointed with the selection of Senator John S. McCain. But in one sense, he is the true conservative in values -- he has fought for campaign finance reform -- getting big money out of politics.

This should allow the little guy (or gal) more voice in what this country is doing.

In some religions, it is part of the church service to pray for the leaders of a country (Ukrainian Catholic, for example).

We must pray for our leaders and pray that the Congress that is elected in 2008 will serve our Judeo-Christian country and help restore traditional values.

We need to win back the HOUSE and SENATE.

Additionally, Senator John S. McCain may choose a Vice Presidental candidate that many conservatives will warm up to.

I have heard it once said: YOU GET WHAT YOU PRAY FOR.

Obviously, if we are not praying (and working) for the conservatives values this country needs for this election, then God will not help us.

We must be like the Old Widow who continually went to the Judge. Eventually, the Judge gave in the Old Widom because she continually asked the Judge to see her point of view.

Thank you for the ping.
We need to keep the military, POWs, MIAs, and this year’s election in our prayers.

You may know the story of Saint Paul. His name prior to conversion was Saul and he was a devout Jew. He thought he was doing God's will by persecuting the Christians.

I am not saying that Senator John S. McCain (III) is a conservative, but conservatives should learn the lesson of Justice David Souter. Though Souter was bad, he was felt alienated by conservatives and turned (in full force) to the liberals who embraced him.

Even within conservative ranks, there are two great examples of people who have changed paths. One is Ronald Reagan, who was a Democrat in his early days, and his father-in-law Doc Davis helped to bring him into the conservative fold.

As for the other example, it is the recently deceased Charleton Heston. He marched with Martin Luther King, Jr., and was involved in Civil Rights.

Then the Democratic Party turned very far to the left, and he turned to the Republicans.

He then embraced the NRA and became the president of the NRA.

In the case of Senator John S. McCain (III), we can pray for his conversion.

As for his family, he is from generations and generations of military who have served the United States. One of his ancestors was an officer to General George Washington during the Civil War.

It was the McCain family tradition that the first son took care of the family farm and the second son went to West Point.

In the case of John S. McCain (I) (grandfather of Senator McCain), John McCain (I) could not get an appointment to West Point. He took the exams to Annapolis as practice and did so well as to get an appointment. He decided to take the appointment to Annapolis.

His grandfather earned his wings as the most advanced age of anyone ever in the US Navy (he was the oldest person to became a flyer in the US Navy).

In American History, the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 is a very sore point with conservatives.

How the robber barons influenced politicans is a sore point with me.

I welcome McCain-Feingold Campaign not as a conservative bill, but hopefully something to help see who pull whose strings.

The bill also changed the rules for politics.

One must learn to adapt (aka Clint Eastwood in Heartbreak Ridge) or be overwhelmed...

Also there is a lesson about Ronald Reagan, Charleton Heston, and David Souter.

In the case of the first two, they converted from being Democrats to being Republicans and conservatives.

In the case of Souter, he became a bad justice, but he was alienated by the conservatives that he embraced the liberals.

My point about Souter is that we should burn the bridges of people like him, but perhaps try to bring him back to the fold -- like a lost lamb or a lost sheep. He might even be a black sheep that might need to be converted to a white sheep.

Nothing is gained unless we try.

Unless you prefer Hillary or Obama...

That is McCain's political history.

And much of it is bad.

But he was a prisoner of war in Vietnam. His family has a distinguished military history -- the envy of many in American History (a McCain was an officer on the staff of General George Washington)...

Is the bottle half empty or half full???

Regardless of McCain's political past, he will apparently be the Republican nominee...

I would agree we need prayer...

The hostile responses are okay...

McCain becomes an issue that good people do not become dis-enfranchised in this election and allow the liberals and other bad influences get more power in the Congress.

People need to be more involved in politics and not less involved...

I agree.

But conservatives must try to get more influence in Congress this election.

If McCain is forced to deal with a Republican House or Senate, he might be forced to help more conservative legislation get through Congress.

In terms of the Bible, in the Gospel of Matthew, it talks about one who is in sin. If McCain embraces liberalism, then Republicans and Conservatives need to take him aside privately and try to show him the error of his ways.

I assure Hillary or Obama will be much worse in the presidency.

Hopefully, we can get a more conservative Vice President (Fred Thompson or someone else).

Does McCain embrace CFR and the Bilderbergers (spelling)?

For me, the disgrace of the Federal Reserve Act and the Bull Moose Party to get Wilson elected is a lesson to be learned.

Post 143 on this thread have more about this:

You cannot make a case for McCain changing his path until those men are home.

Yes, I am quite familiar with the story of Saul, who became Paul. Not sure what that has to do with this issue other than he penned one of the verses I quoted.

Nor do I understand what McCain's great, grand or father have to do with his candidacy. If they were running, I may have an entirely different view of them and may consider voting for one of them. At least I hope I would. Unless of course they conspired to leave 100's of their brothers in arms as prisoners in enemy territory for their own personal gain.

Heston and Reagan??? They left the rat party when they became too liberal. McCain, on the other hand has worked behind the scenes to change the republican party into a liberal den of iniquity. Hardly an apt comparison, more like polar opposites.

I have no idea what is happening with the POW - MIAs today, or even 20 years ago; I’d be kind of surprised if any were still alive, unless they were collaborators or defectors.

But I will say this; While I was never directly involved with the POW-MIA operations, I had Buds that were; a few Son-Tay Raiders, and other similar sorts: 33 years ago, they all told me: “Don’t ever trust that damned Admiral’s Son”.

Now, this was before anyone but perhaps himself ever expected John McCain to run for high office, much less the highest office. He was the Naval Liaison to the Senate at the time; still in uniform. And of course the Senate’s ‘go-to-guy’ on POW matters.

Fortunately, I never had to be in a position to trust him as the ops that I was involved in were far from his purview. But I never forgot, and I have followed his career. Since then, there has been nothing that would change the consensus opinion of my ‘beanie wearing buddies’.

Now, unfortunately the entire world is on the verge of having to “trust that damned Admiral’s Son”.

I’ll stop reading your post right here since you obviously didn’t read the posts we made. Your question of ‘have no idea...’ would have been answered.

Change the next title to Pray for Senator McCain and then pick a topic he has been worthy of support.

I leave it to you to find one.

Geeze.. OK, how about if I say I don't have PERSONAL knowledge about it like I did decades ago. Flying off the handle like that; sneering at people who are actually supporting your position is not particularly nice or particularly smart.

I don’t see any flying off the handle or sneer in my posts.

I don’t have PERSONAL knowledge either as you have stated. I have provided public record though. And if you are going to comment on it, the least you can do is read what is posted.

McCain does not get my prayers, anymore than Hilary or Obama get them. As human beings, sure, I'll pray for them. PRAY FOR THEM TO COME TO SEE THE LIGHT.

I won't pray for ANY OF THEM FOR THEIR POLITICAL SUCCESS.

And it BETTER not start here on FR for McCAIN--that's all I can say.

You ‘flew off the handle’ because you didn’t like my first few words, dismissing anything that followed. And ‘sneered’ because you you thought— erroneously— I hadn’t read the links. The basic information of which, I was aware of long ago.

I merely was intimating that I don’t know it for absolute fact, nor know the people involved, like Major Smith enough to put full faith in what they say.

But nevermind... I’ll no longer bother to reply to any of your stuff in the future, if I can avoid it.
