I was surprised to learn that this was not in the New Madrid fault zone, but in the ILLINOIS BASIN - OZARK DOME REGION (according to the USGS). I never hear of that before, but I suppose the Wabash Zone is in this region.

I'm not close enough to go on a whim. I generally go for a weekend in the Spring and another in the Fall. I always have seats. In fact I had a couple of extra seats for each of the days I was there last week. Our seats this year were pretty close to the Winner's Circle in Section P. In fact there was only on box between us and the box the track gave to the owners of Momba. They had a pretty nice mini-celebration before heading down for the trophy presentation. Of course the weather was so dismal that the only time we were actually at the seats was around the time the races were run. And we were also denied our traditional 11 o'clock cigars on the porch out back. I think we're planning to attend again the first weekend in the fall, so if the weather is more cooperative, you might look for several geezer-guys out there smoking out cigars and pouring over our Racing Forms and say, "Hello."

It woke me up. I check the USGS site to see if it was an earthquake .. it was. So, I took my medicine and went back to sleep.

I HATE earthquakes. I was in the 1994 Northridge quake, and because I was in a deep sleep at the time it hit, it didn’t scare me like it would have had I been fully awake. The damn thing wouldn’t stop shaking. When I moved back to KC, I slept so well knowing the chances were almost nil that a devastating quake would hit when I was alone at home. I have quake insurance - practically nothing here but I’m keeping it.

Also, the Northridge quake hit at 4:30am - similar times.

Wow! I take it everyone’s alright? Do you know whether there was any structural damage? I take it the settling crack was just that and not caused by the quake...

Yep. The crack was already there but it did make noise when the last wave hit. I’d estimate about 15 seconds of movement.

Not fun. I was through a small one many years ago. I was in my car going to a buddy’s house when it hit. I didn’t feel a thing but when I arrived he was outside looking like death warmed over. His little place rattled fer sure.

No, it was just all the people at Trinity United jumping up and down to the tune of G-D Amerikkka! sung by the choir to the African drumbeat of the new pastor.
To: dinoparty
Felt it here in Lawrenceburg, IN.

It woke me up near Peoria. It seemed to last for ever. I remember thinking “this can’t be good for the house”.
