Controversy over his concealed carry permit
Gov. Jim Gibbons' 10-year-old permit to carry a concealed firearm has been in the news, of late.
The governor temporarily surrendered his permit after it was found he hadn't re-qualified with each of the nine handguns listed on his permit, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported earlier this month.
The Washoe County sheriff's office renewed the governor's permit in December, after Gov. Gibbons and a certified firearms instructor signed an application reporting he'd demonstrated competence with each of the nine weapons he's licensed to carry, the paper reported.
But the governor carried only seven guns to the range. He promised the instructor he'd come back with the remaining two weapons within a few days, but said he "got busy" and didn't return to be tested after receiving his renewed permit.

Nine handguns?
Slacker.
In Texas if you qualify with a revolver you can carry any revolver you want. If you qualify with a semi you can carry any semi or revolver you want.
Qualification requirements in the first place are stupid, but then having to qualify on every firearm you have is even more stupid. I can *almost* understand type qualification (auto vs revolver) but if you have say two glocks that the only difference is caliber you shouldn’t have to qualify on both of them.
Sidebar: In Idaho you never actually have to even fire a weapon...ever...to qualify for a CCW permit :).
“Sidebar: In Idaho...”
Same here in Washington but I’m very surprised the Dems haven’t tinkered with our concealed carry law. That’s why I always make sure it’s current so I’m grandfathered if they ever do.
It’s the same in Oregon and when you get your CCL you can carry any kind of firearm.

****
That’s what I don’t like about TX CCW law. If you qualify with a revolver, you should be able to carry either a revolver or semi-auto.
That's my sheriff! He signs all my NFA forms by proxy. Guy reminds me of Oliver North.
About Nevada's supposedly 'goofy' qualification requirement for CCWs: Yes, we do make you qualify with each individual automatic pistol you wish to carry, but revolvers aren't specified. We also insist on training and competency, plus eight hours of classroom instruction on liability, deadly force, justification, and firearms laws. We have higher standards in Nevada and for other states to have reciprocity with us, you must meet our high standards to some degree of satisfaction. We also run periodic background checks on the CCW holder. Information is kept confidential and CCWs in Nevada are 'shall issue'. We have 'Castle Doctrine' which extends to your vehicles.
Is this unreasonable and restrictive? Hardly. In fact, I'm proud to regard our requirements as 'well regulated', in the spirit of the Second Amendment. Nevada does it right.
Mine (ND permit) just says “firearm and dangerous weapon” which leaves a lot of possibilities open...
That seems reasonable. In NC, if you can point 3 yards in front of you and pull the trigger at the same time you're in. For any handgun.
Seems like I heard somewhere that the gaming industry had something to do with the drafting of the NV law. My vague recollection is that it had something to do with security guards.
From my perspective it does seem somewhat over-regulated.
Loading and manipulating a semiauto is considerably more complex than doing the same with a revolver. I’ve seen folks who were OK with a revolver, but were dangerous klutzes with a semiauto in their hands...
Any citizens is qualified as a citizen. For me this includes felons. The only way and the only organization that control and remove rights and liberties are prisons, by order of a Judge. Other than that, you are free. Free as in no charge or master.
In Michigan, you may carry any handgun you own and may carry any handgun owned by another CCW holder.
I'm not aware of too many attacks which occurs under a shed roof shooting some fair distance across a grass field at your leisure. Yet this that does not occur, under peculiarly simple and non realistic conditions is considered quality.
But, it's what I expect out of government people
He carries nine handguns? Wow- who does his holsters? I start to look bulgy after four.
