Dem Debate: Obama’s Waterloo
HotAir ^ | April 17, 2008 | Ed Morrissey

Posted on 04/17/2008 4:55:08 AM PDT by rightwingintelligentsia

The last Democratic debate has finally concluded, and perhaps the last chances of ending the primaries early. Thanks to a surprisingly tenacious set of questions for Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton from ABC moderaters Charles Gibson and George Stephanopolous, Barack Obama got exposed over and over again as an empty suit, while Hillary cleaned his clock. However, the big winner didn’t even take the stage tonight.

The first 45 minutes of the scheduled 90-minute debate (which went 15 minutes over) wound up focusing on the series of gaffes and stumbles from both candidates. Hillary more or less defused the Tuzla Dash by admitting she essentially lied about it, trying at one point to use the “sleep deprivation” defense. Obama, however, never did figure out the First Rule of Holes. Once again, he described religion as a refuge people use when government doesn’t work — a fatal misreading of religious faith in America. He not only came up with bad answers, he looked lost and tentative throughout the entire period.

Hillary didn’t let him off the hook, either, not when it came to Crackerquiddick or on the Wright Stuff. Noting that “you choose your pastor, not your family,” Hillary once again pounded Obama for not doing anything about Wright when he had the chance. She also jumped at the chance to note that former Weather Underground terrorist William Ayers was more than just a “neighbor”, as Obama described him. Hillary pointed out that Obama and Ayers worked on a foundation together for years, even after 9/11, even after Ayers said publicly that he didn’t regret his terrorism.

I didn’t watch it.

Too bad...I had a lot of fun watching Gibson and Stephanopolous go after them...

Bill Clinton just spoke in Easton, and evidently, the people waited in a long line and treated him like a rock star. My daughter works with a clinton supporter, and she says you can’t discuss politics with the woman. She’s so brainwashed...

Heil Obama!

An old German lady who used to be my neighbor, said that she attended an Adolph Hitler rally. She admitted that he was a psychopath, but said that he ‘moved’ everyone who saw him... she couldn't explain how but said that his presence was ‘commanding’ and impressive. She was almost 100 years old when she told me this and her eyes lit up when she said it... just like it happened yesterday.

She scared me.

It got worse when Gibson asked about capital-gains tax rates, which Obama has pledged to raise. When Gibson repeatedly pointed out that decreasing the rates actually increased the revenues, Obama simply couldn’t come up with an answer, stammering while trying to change the subject.

Why, that's the Laffer curve!

Anybody? Anybody?

...Bueller?

I believe you live in the Easton/Bethlehem area? I’m slightly west, but yep, as long as it’s a dem, it’s true love.

You really think McCain will do that? He’s too much of a wuss. I can only think of Jack Kemp vs Gore in 96- pathetically weak and unsure.

We're seeing a group of people on Friday night. One of the guys owns a small business and hunts. He is a huge Hillary supporter. Go figure...

Isn’t it amazing that you can point out all the stupid obvious lies, the failings of all their proposals,

and leftists just shrug and say “I like him/her”.

McCain is one lucky SOB

Say what you will about him, he's stuck at it, stayed in the game. I think he'd have beaten Kerry also. The DEMs are off the deep end.

Well, the left is, at least.

They’ve been well trained in group think.

And that’s all their looking at here - two victim group representatives.

Based on that, “black” trumps “woman”, so Obama wins the popular vote, which is what we’re seeing.

But Hildy will steal the nomination - hopefully fracturing the dhimmirats beyond redemption.

Hillary has agreed to a debate in North Carolina in the next couple of weeks.

So far, she's the only participant, though.

Considering here large number of positions on the issues she could always debate herself....

I've learned not to discuss politics with friends and relatives unless I know they're Republicans because you end up in an argument. It's pointless because democrats won't listen to reason....

Well, and you have to admit, the swastika is a hell of a logo. The Nazis provided amazing theater. The flaming torchlight, the giant romanesque eagles, the big red nazi banners, and finally ole Adolf ranting and raving. I can see how people got swept up in it.

I think calling Obama stupid is vastly underestimating him. The guy came out of nowhere with practically no experience at all to stop the expected coronation of Shrillary.

He is in fact more dangerous than Dukakis. He really believes in the marxist variant of materialism and that religion is an opiate of the people. (Of course he excludes his own church for black liberation reasons.)

But that he got this far without any of it being exposed shows that he is anything but stupid.

McCain needs to run a focused, disciplined race. We do not know if he can do that as he gets too caught up with himself.

Both Rat candidates are out and out socialists. The question remains only which one is more true to Saul Alinsky. I think Obama wins by a nod, but Shrillary gets bonus points for supporting radical killers in the Black Panthers.

These people are dangerous and a cyst in our country. They will bring their polluted views to all of America and the world.

I don't. But then of course, I am adept at detaching myself from ALL forms of hysteria. I feel like I became an adult the day I learned I did not HAVE to give myself up to my feelings and motions.
