An old German lady who used to be my neighbor, said that she attended an Adolph Hitler rally. She admitted that he was a psychopath, but said that he ‘moved’ everyone who saw him... she couldn't explain how but said that his presence was ‘commanding’ and impressive. She was almost 100 years old when she told me this and her eyes lit up when she said it... just like it happened yesterday.
She scared me.
Well, and you have to admit, the swastika is a hell of a logo. The Nazis provided amazing theater. The flaming torchlight, the giant romanesque eagles, the big red nazi banners, and finally ole Adolf ranting and raving. I can see how people got swept up in it.
I hear you about the charisma thing.
Here’s the problem I see for McCain. Obama has largely succeeded in remaining positive, no matter what you think of his policies. Democrats will go to the polls to vote for a charismatic candidate with a positive message. Republicans will go to the polls to vote for a candidate who seems to have no more to offer than more of what President Bush has been delivering for the last seven years. It’s no challenge to predict who will get better turn out.
