Wal-Mart to log guns sold, then used in crimes (Bloomberg strikes again!)

Largest seller of firearms will also videotape all transactions

Changes at Wal-Mart will affect about 1,100 stores that sell firearms.

WASHINGTON - Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest seller of firearms, announced Monday it will toughen rules for gun sales, from storing video of purchases to creating an internal log of which guns they sell that are later used in crimes.

J.P. Suarez, the chief compliance officer for Wal-Mart Stores Inc., appeared with outspoken gun control advocate Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York to announce the changes at a gathering of Bloomberg’s group Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

Changes to come at about 1,100 Wal-Mart stores selling guns include:

Creating a record and alert system to record when a gun sold at Wal-Mart is later used in a crime. If the purchaser of that gun later tries to buy another gun at Wal-Mart, the system would alert the sales clerk of the prior buy and could refuse to make the sale. Retaining the recorded images of gun sales in case law enforcement wants to view them later as part of an investigation.

Expanding background checks of employees...

--snip--

Wal-Mart, the world’s largest retailer, had previously tried to establish a store in New York City but failed.

The mayors’ gun summit also unveiled a new lobbying effort to close what they call the “gun show loophole,” which allows sales of firearms without background checks between private individuals at gun shows.

Bloomberg founded the group two years ago with Boston mayor Thomas Menino to reduce the flow of guns from store displays into the hands of criminals.

The group, largely funded by Bloomberg’s personal fortune, announced it was spending more than $100,000 on television ads, starting Wednesday, featuring all three of the current main presidential candidates voicing their opposition to the gun show loophole.

They might as well just stop selling firearms, then. I’ll never buy one there if they’re going to keep records and video of the purchase past the required federal timeframe.

“Bloomberg’s group Mayors Against Illegal Guns”

Bloomberg’s group? Are they kidding? I mean, are there any mayors in America who are FOR illegal guns?

I don't like this policy by Wal-mart, but I don't think you understand how the current system works.

The only time frame that expires is how long the records can be kept by the government on NICS checks. The retailer is required to keep a record of all gun purchases for as long as they stay in business, and are required to turn over those records to the ATF if they go out of business.

What Wal-mart is basically doing is adding video of the transaction to the records they are already required to keep. All that really would seem to do is allow the police to investigate if the person purchasing a gun was really who they claimed to be.

gun control advocates will use wal-mart example to push for uniform rules following wal-mart’s example, smaller gun sporting shops would not be able to absorb the costs

Sounds like they're setting themselves up for a lawsuit...

So if my gun is stolen and then used in a crime, I can’t buy a replacement from Wal*Mart? Genius, just sheer genius.

Pussy. Seriously, what kind of male would show up at a gun-control event and not feel like a total limp-wrist?

Chances are that the guns become “illegal” when they’re stolen from a legal purchaser - then they become illegal, not before ....

That, uh, is the goal of these vermin, bud... Getting you to stand down, instead of standing up and exercising your RIGHT.

People DIED for this right. We shouldn’t be so quick to give it up.

The law requires all FFLs to keep the Form 4473 for twenty years.

The point is, these “limp-wristed males” ARE showing up, and they ARE pushing their agenda, and they ARE passing laws infringing on your right.

When was the last time you saw a “Million Man March” of Second Amendment supporters? How about an Empty Holster protest of several thousand of us in DC? When was the last time you saw that happen? How difficult is it to get even a few hundred of us together to try to make noise?

THEY read Alinsky; we go to work. THEY have “rent-a-mobs” - WE have mortgages to pay.

Until WE organize, until WE push back, they just show us complete and utter contempt.

And by organizing, that means running for office and getting die-hard Second Amendment folks entrenched in office.

No, I wouldn’t call them limp-wristed...I’d call them dedicated, hardcore subversive activists with unlimited funding and malevolent motives.

Our very own Fifth Column.

Yes, but what benefit will that provide beyond current info? The LEA will get a copy of your 4473, which required the seller to positviely ID the buyer with a valid picture ID and for the buyer to provide rather detailed personal info-SSAN, POB, DOB, description etc, so the video is only to do what-protect the seller, from what? Help LEAs, how?

Will they ask for permission to tape the buyer? This is not the same as routine surveillance video on security cameras, this is recording a personal transaction well beyond what is required by law. Who will control these tapes? The seller? Who gets them if not the seller? Who vettes the folks that watch them? I don’t think Wal-Mart does security clearances on the “associates” that will run this process or archive. Since when does a coalition of city administrators have the legal power to obtain such information?

Violations of several constitutionally protected rights in my mind.

This is fraught with statist concerns. Rant off.

MOLON LABE

God Bless

Buy American (pretty much rules out WalMart et al).

Billionaire liberals don’t live by the rules that 99.999% of America does. They can hire any number of bodyguards, they can bypass any red tape, they can afford to pay $3, $4, $5, $10, $100 per gallon of gas, and so on. Their interference in OUR lives means nothing to them. Therefore, they don’t mind if our standard of living suffers because of their meddling. That is why WE must fight against them tooth-and-nail.

Wal-Mart has been trying to build a store in NYC and the city (Bloomberg) has been blocking it. Now, Wal-Mart joins Bloomberg in his anti-gun circus. Can a new Wal-Mart store be far behind?

Both Wal-Mart and Bloomberg are despicable and we gun owners are the ultimate losers to their greed and glory.

I fear the tyranny that the Second Amendment was put in to dissuade is fast approaching.
